Summary
This position is located in the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Field Organization in Madison, WI. The incumbent facilitates office operations by providing clerical and office automation support, fulfilling reporting requirements, typing materials, maintaining records, and providing or requesting information.
Duties
- Uses office automation software packages and equipment to type correspondence, memoranda, reports, manuscripts, and other documents, ensuring accuracy with regard to format, arrangement, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and distribution of copies.
- Establishes and maintains a variety of office records and files.
- Determines supplies needed for the office staff, prepares the necessary paperwork, and receives and distributes supplies and special order items.
- Receives telephone calls, greets visitors, and directs to staff members only those contacts needing attention or action.
- Arranges travel for staff, including scheduling transportation, making room reservations, preparing travel authorizations and itineraries, and preparing travel vouchers.
Requirements
You must be a US Citizen or US National. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt. Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-5 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-4 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience using automated systems to prepare official correspondence or time and attendance records; preparing and reviewing travel records or documents; and maintaining records or files for an office. OR Education: Successful completion of 4 full years of education above the high school level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. OR A combination of education and experience as described above. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
