Full job description

Position Summary

The Student Services Advisor supports the ALT Department programs, providing comprehensive academic support to a caseload of graduate students. Manages admissions cycles, including downloading applications, scheduling interviews, coordinating yield events, supporting recruitment activities, and the transition of newly admitted students into the university community. Advises students on navigating degree requirements, course registration, and university policies and procedures. Serves as a primary point of contact, offering guidance on academic planning, career exploration, and referrals to campus resources. Develops and disseminates student communications, including announcements, newsletters, and outreach related to deadlines, events, and program updates. Works collaboratively with faculty, academic departments, and Student Affairs to identify and address barriers to student success and contributes to a coordinated student-centered support network. Maintains accurate student records, tracks academic progress, and plans orientation, workshops, and other student engagement initiatives that promote persistence and timely degree completion.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:

Master's Degree in higher education, management, psychology, or social services

Required Experience:

2+ years experience advising/counseling students at the college or university level or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management, and networking skills. Highly responsive and can prioritize tasks independently. Ability to work with a diverse student population. Google Suite and Microsoft knowledge. Knowledge of subjects related to education and experience working in an academic setting a plus.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $77,000.00 to USD $84,700.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
