Summary
This vacancy is for a GS-1801-11/12, MARINE INSP/PSCO-APPRENTICE located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR NEW YORK INSPECTIONS DIVISION in STATEN ISLAND, New York.
Duties
You will serve as a MARINE INSP/PSCO-APPRENTICE and be responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership in the enforcement of marine safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention, vessel manning, regulations, treaties, international conventions, and commercial vessel safety. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Conducts reviews of vessel's plans, safety management systems and operating systems to determine compliance with regulations and applicable standards. Determines that vessels being inspected have the proper documents and certificates on board and in effect, Inspects all required navigation, intra-vessel communication, alarm, lifesaving, fire fighting, and pollution prevention systems on a vessel to ensure that they are operating properly and in compliance with applicable national and international standards. Ensures the required inspection documentation is prepared and appropriate orders drafted specifying any required changes, 'repairs or operational limitations for the vessel and its equipment. .Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application. To qualify at the GS- 11 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Experience conducting marine inspections for regulatory compliance. Experience evaluating vessel systems and equipment for deficiencies. Experience preparing inspection findings and corrective recommendations. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related To qualify at the GS- 12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Experience conducting marine inspections and examinations to determine compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety reuirements. Experience evaluating vessel systems, equipment, and operations to identify deficiencies and determine appropriate corrective actions. Experience preparing inspection findings, reports , and recommendations to provide technical guidance regarding marine safety or regulatory requirements. This position does not have a positive education requirement.
