Full job description

At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. Please visit our DOTD Career Center for more information about our agency.

This position is located in the Design Section of District 04 and reports to the Surveyor Supervisor. The incumbent serves as the functional supervisor of the District 04 Survey Crew and is responsible for performing land surveying duties using GPS and computer technology. The position requires a current Louisiana Professional Land Surveyor License, knowledge of Louisiana Property Law, participation in required training and continuing education, and the ability to work independently and effectively respond to unforeseen conditions. Possession of a current Louisiana Land Surveyor Intern certificate. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here. Job Duties: Depending on level and assignment, Surveyor intern 1 - Surveyor Intern 2 may:

  • Conduct roadway, property, drainage, and right-of-way surveys for District 04 projects.
  • Prepare right-of-way maps and coordinate survey information with design staff.
  • Perform forensic surveys for accident sites, including topographic surveys and right-of-way/property information.
  • Train engineering technicians on surveying methods, equipment, software, and legal requirements.
  • Assist with other duties as needed, including emergency and disaster response activities.

Position Specific Details: Career Progression: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as a Surveyor Intern 1, or Surveyor Intern 2. Compensation: The following reflects the beginning biweekly salary for each level. A Special Entrance Rate (SER) may apply to qualifying positions.

  • Surveyor Intern 1 – SER at $2,692.80 biweekly
  • Surveyor Intern 2 – SER at $2,881.60 biweekly

Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
