Job Overview
The University of Dubuque is a growing faith-based University that is seeking an Evening Supervisor for the Charles C. Myers Library.
Position Summary:
The Evening Supervisor helps create and sustain the Charles C. Myers Library as a welcoming learning studio and idea lab during evening hours by providing research and information assistance, supervising student employees, supporting the use of library resources and technologies, and fostering an environment of curiosity, collaboration, and academic engagement. This position plays a key role in connecting students with the resources, spaces, and support needed for learning, research, and project development while ensuring smooth library operations and high-quality public service. Regular hours are Monday through Thursday evenings when classes are in session, with additional hours during academic breaks and summer sessions determined in consultation with the Assistant Director for Public Services.
Primary Responsibilities:

Provide research, information, and resource assistance to students, faculty, and staff during evening hours

Assist with supervising, training, and supporting student workers, ensuring a high standard of service and engagement with library users

Assist with circulation services, equipment lending, reserves, and user account inquiries
-
Support students in the effective use of library resources, learning technologies, and collaborative workspaces
-
Troubleshoot basic technology issues related to library equipment, digital resources, and user access
-
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and productive environment that encourages learning, exploration, collaboration, and responsible scholarship
-
Monitor library spaces to ensure safe, effective, and appropriate use of facilities and resources
-
Communicate effectively with library staff regarding operational issues, user needs, and service improvements to maintain continuity across shifts
-
Perform opening and/or closing procedures as assigned

Support library programs, services, and initiatives that advance student learning, creativity, and engagement
-
Support library operations during academic breaks and summer sessions, as scheduled
-
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University's Mission
Skills and Abilities:

Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, staff, and visitors

Commitment to creating a welcoming environment that supports learning, collaboration, and student success

Ability to supervise, mentor, and provide directions to student employees

Ability to support users in locating, evaluating, and utilizing information resources and learning technologies
-
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot basic technology issues

Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage responsibilities during evening hours
-
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to balance multiple priorities
-
Adaptability, initiative, and willingness to contribute to evolving library services, programs, and spaces
Qualifications:
-
Undergraduate Degree Required; Graduate Degree Preferred

Experience providing customer service, educational support, student services, or other public-facing work
-
Demonstrate proficiency with computers, office software, online research tools, and common digital technologies

Available to work scheduled evening hours during the academic year
-
Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading student employees or other staff preferred
-
Experience working in a library, learning commons, academic support center, educational setting, or customer-service environment preferred
