Senior Manager - Agentic Commerce

New York, NY, United States

Job Description

Amex Digital Labs’ mission is to build the future of payments and membership, creating new value that evolves with our customers' needs and drives deeper engagement and loyalty. We leverage emerging technologies to deliver innovations that enhance how customers pay, travel, dine, and experience the brand.

We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead product strategy and platform development for Agentic Commerce at American Express. This position will focus on the strategy and execution required to enable seamless, secure agent-driven transactions, including defining the experiences, platform capabilities, and trust frameworks needed to scale across partners and future use cases. This person will build a strong command of emerging agentic commerce protocols, existing card payments infrastructure, and new interaction models. Partnering closely with engineering, product, and cross-functional teams, this Product Manager will shape intuitive and delightful commerce journeys powered by AI agents.

As a trusted, closed-loop network, American Express is uniquely positioned to extend its authentication, authorization, identity, and risk capabilities into AI-powered commerce experiences while preserving Card Member visibility and control over agent-initiated activity. By leveraging our membership model, premium brand, and differentiated data assets, this person will help define the experiences and capabilities that create value for Card Members, merchants, partners, and the broader ecosystem.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy and Roadmap

  • Partner across American Express to define and deliver foundational capabilities that enable secure, scalable agentic commerce across the payments ecosystem, with a focus on intent intelligence

  • Align product strategy, requirements, and roadmaps across issuer and network perspectives to ensure scalable and interoperable solutions

  • Keep a pulse on industry trends, balancing near-term execution priorities with long-term strategy to support the overall product vision

Platform Technology

  • Collaborate on the development of capabilities related to intent intelligence, authentication, authorization, tokenization, spend controls, identity, merchant enablement, and trust infrastructure.

  • Drive alignment on long-term platform architecture, operating models, and ecosystem strategy to support future scale.

  • Partner deeply with engineering teams to understand and develop a perspective on how to apply evolving technologies (Agent-to-Agent Protocol, Agentic Payments Protocol, x402, Web Bot Auth, Trusted Agent Protocol, Model Context Protocol, and others) for AI agent-facilitated payments

Product Delivery & Partner Enablement

  • Balance the needs of customers, internal stakeholders, leadership, and external partners while working with engineering to identify technical solutions, shape product requirements, and deliver platform capabilities that advance Agentic Commerce experiences

  • Bring structure to ambiguous, cross-ecosystem problems by defining how data flows across merchants, PSPs, and AI/LLM partners to support fraud, servicing, and Card Member experiences.

  • Work with Business Development teams to evaluate, influence and operationalize partner requirements, and with Product Enablement teams on go-to-market strategies

Risk and Compliance

  • Partner closely with Fraud and Servicing to define strategies for fraud prevention, dispute management, and call or chat handling related to agentic transactions

  • Partner with internal stakeholders such as Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams to develop and adhere to governance principles and payments regulations to ensure compliant and secure payment experiences

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in product management/development, or similar role

  • Enthusiasm for exceptional products and services, deep customer empathy, keen product intuition, and skilled at articulation of product functionality

  • Experience turning nebulous concepts into concrete requirements for execution

  • Curiosity and a hunger to understand how things work, with the ability to use that knowledge to make connections, identify opportunities, and push the innovation agenda within a large company.

  • Highly organized self-starter with strong ownership mentality and business track record

  • Understanding of tech and product development processes, with the ability to communicate with and influence both technical and non-technical partners

  • Ability to reconcile competing needs across customers, stakeholders, and partners, making effective decisions and gaining buy in

  • Proven partner to engineering and comfortable discussing technical trade-offs; known as a business person who can talk tech

  • Detail oriented, able to identify key questions, and assess how pieces of the puzzle interact and affect the overall product

  • Ability to recognize issues quickly and determine how to get a resolution through creative and efficient problem solving

  • Skilled at balancing big picture strategy and tactical details

  • Team player, comfortable with ambiguity, adaptable, accountable, and highly organized

  • Excellent communication skills across cross functional teams with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire partners to drive collaboration and alignment.

  • Willingness to be creative within the bounds of the highly regulated financial services environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with digital payments including digital wallets, fraud prevention, disputes, and payment processing
