Scope of Job

To provide high-quality and professional graphic design services for University marketing supporting brand consistency to deliver impactful university marketing initiatives.

Description of Duties

  • Creates and provides high-quality creative static visual components for marketing materials across print (flyers, posters, brochures), outdoor advertising (wall wraps, billboards, etc.), and web graphics.

  • Collaborates with multimedia designers ( MMD ) and other departments to deliver impactful university marketing initiatives.

  • Works collaboratively with the supervisor to ensure creative designs completed accurately represent the university’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Ensures consistent brand identity by adhering to university style guidelines and assisting the multimedia designers with revisions to existing graphics.

  • Collaborates and contributes to the creative development process, particularly supporting the multimedia designer’s work on digital and interactive elements.

  • Provides research and concept development for university marketing materials, with a focus on static visuals.

  • Adheres to quality control standards by proofing, reviewing, and evaluating creative outputs.

  • Effectively manages assigned projects independently, meets deadlines, and reports to the supervisor.

  • Participates in creating and presenting creative pitches, focusing on static visual elements.

  • Responsible for producing materials using industry-standard design software (i.e., Adobe Suite).

  • Assists with reviews and pre-print proofs to ensure the highest quality production and prepares artwork for print.

  • Coordinates multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine art, marketing, advertising, or related field.

Licenses/Certifications

Preferred: Specific training, certifications, licenses or similar related to graphic design.

Required Experience

One (1) year experience performing graphic design work.

Preferred Experience

None.

Equipment

Use of standard office equipment, personal computer, and audio/visual equipment. Proficiency in industry-standard design software like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a must.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards. Strong organizational skills and a keen eye for detail are essential to ensure pre-press-ready artwork adheres to brand guidelines and reflects the university’s professional image. A solid foundation in design principles, including layout, graphics, and typography is expected to create visually appealing marketing materials. Ability to work effectively with other team members, other departments and stakeholders, offering and receiving constructive feedback, is key.
