Job Overview
This is an early-career, hands-on position in the manufacturing area, responsible for developing our molding process and making parts. Our Process Engineer takes new customer parts from first shot to a dialed-in process, delivers parts on schedule, and designs and runs the experiments that make the process better. This is an on-site role in Berkeley: you will spend your days on the floor, not behind a computer. A couple of years of experience is preferred; strong new graduates who want to build things will be considered.
About Arris
Carbon fiber composites hold the potential to change the world by unlocking novel design architectures that deliver unparalleled performance at lighter weights. Despite this potential, the complexity and cost of designing and manufacturing these anisotropic materials has limited their use to high-end, niche applications. Arris Composites has solved this problem and some of the top companies in the world have taken notice. New design latitude and improved performance provides competitive advantages for leaders across the industrial, defense, and consumer markets. Your view of composites is about to change.
As Our Process Engineer, You Will:
-
Take new customer parts from first shot to a dialed-in, repeatable process, and deliver parts on schedule
-
Plan and run your own experiments: make parts, measure results, and report back with clear recommendations
-
Keep the process running day to day: setup, changeovers, maintenance coordination, and throughput
-
Troubleshoot part defects and process drift at the machine, and document what works
-
Work independently, and pull in design, tooling, materials, and quality when needed to get parts out the door
You Will Ideally Bring:
-
A BS in Mechanical, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience)
-
1–3 years of experience; prior hands-on manufacturing experience (molding/composites/tooling) is a plus
-
A builder’s mindset: you would rather be at the machine making parts than at a desk
-
Grit and dependability: willing to show up, work hard, and see problems through
-
Practical experimental instinct: you know what’s worth testing and can draw clear conclusions (DOE experience a plus)
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a team player who pulls others in when needed
-
Knowledge and understanding of composite materials (desired but not needed)
-
Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) as defined under ITAR, due to work on ITAR-controlled U.S. defense programs
Perks Include:
-
Competitive salary with equity
-
Comprehensive health, dental, vision, life insurance, long term disability
-
Flexible Spending Account (FSA) & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA)
-
Pre-tax commuter benefits program
-
Fantastic 401k matching plan
-
Paid parental leave
-
Generous vacation policy
-
Healthy snacks, sparkling water, extremely addictive peanut butter pretzels
