Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Location : This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Principal Project Development Manager applies extensive and diverse knowledge of management principles and practices across a broad range of assignments and related disciplines. This role independently makes decisions regarding large-scale, highly complex commercial matters and represents the organization in the negotiation and resolution of critical strategic business initiatives.
The position requires the application of advanced techniques, as well as the adaptation and extension of established theories and practices within the field. The incumbent is responsible for interpreting, organizing, and executing highly complex strategic initiatives that present significant business risk. This role oversees multiple large-scale projects and programs simultaneously, with total projected investments typically ranging from $50 million to $500 million.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the development, implementation, monitoring, and governance of business processes.

Lead, mentor, and develop team members to enhance organizational capability and performance.

Provide leadership for cross-functional teams and drive alignment across stakeholders.

Administer and manage highly complex corporate standard work and business processes.

Lead the development of complex business cases and conduct comprehensive due diligence activities.

Negotiate and develop large-scale contracts and commercial agreements.

Direct and oversee highly complex project development activities.
-
Manage and coordinate interactions with third-party stakeholders, both internal and external.

Lead strategic planning and execution efforts for highly complex projects and business initiatives.

Engage with, present to, and communicate effectively with senior leadership and executive stakeholders.

Perform other duties as assigned or as required to support business objectives.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in project development, major asset acquisition, contract development and negotiation, senior leadership engagement, business administration, cross-functional team leadership, strategic business planning and implementation, and resource or peer mentoring.

[OR] Associate's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of nine (9) years of applicable professional experience.

[OR] High school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of eleven (11) years of applicable professional experience.
