Custodial Area Manager

Position Summary

The Custodial Area Manager is responsible for overseeing quality assurance and supporting night vendor cleaning teams throughout East Baton Rouge Parish School System facilities. This position travels between assigned schools to inspect completed work, address service concerns, and ensure all custodial services meet HES standards.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday

  • 1:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.

  • Travel between assigned EBR school locations is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine quality-assurance inspections at assigned schools.

  • Ensure custodial work is completed according to HES standards, procedures, and contractual requirements.

  • Oversee and support night vendor cleaning teams.

  • Communicate work expectations and provide guidance to vendor supervisors and team members.

  • Document inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions.

  • Follow up on identified concerns to confirm they are resolved promptly.

  • Monitor the cleanliness of classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, gyms, and common areas.

  • Respond to school or client concerns professionally and with urgency.

  • Communicate regularly with HES leadership regarding site conditions, staffing concerns, service issues, and vendor performance.

  • Promote compliance with HES safety requirements, chemical procedures, equipment standards, and workplace policies.

  • Build positive working relationships with school administrators, custodial teams, vendors, and HES leadership.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous custodial or commercial cleaning experience is required.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

  • Ability to travel throughout the EBR district during the scheduled shift.

  • Ability to inspect custodial work accurately and recognize cleaning or safety concerns.

  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple locations, and follow up consistently.

  • Basic ability to complete electronic reports, emails, and inspection documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory, leadership, or managerial experience is preferred but not required.

  • Experience overseeing vendor or contract cleaning teams is preferred.

  • Experience working in school, commercial, or facilities-management environments is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to bend, reach, climb stairs, and inspect all areas of a school facility.

  • Ability to lift and carry supplies or equipment as required.

  • Ability to work around cleaning chemicals and custodial equipment while following proper safety procedures.
