At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Power Electronics Engineer (P3) to join our multidisciplinary engineering team supporting advanced aerospace and defense programs. The P3 engineer will serve as a key technical contributor responsible for leading the design, development, analysis, verification, and integration of power conversion hardware across a wide range of applications including airborne platforms, space systems, radar, and next‑generation power architectures. This role is ideal for mid‑career engineers who are ready to take ownership of complex subassemblies, drive technical decisions, and mentor junior engineers while delivering high‑performance, high‑reliability power solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the design and development of power electronics hardware including AC/DC and DC/DC converters, motor/servo drives, PFC stages, filters, and complete power system architectures.

  • Own circuit‑level and subsystem‑level designs, performing schematic creation, component selection, and guiding PCB layout for high‑density and high‑reliability power boards.

  • Perform advanced engineering analysis including SPICE/PLECS simulation, worst‑case analysis, derating, reliability modeling, and detailed thermal/electromagnetic evaluations.

  • Develop and validate custom magnetics designs, providing electrical models, core/winding selections, and optimization for size, efficiency, and thermal performance.

  • Drive adoption of advanced devices including SiC and GaN power semiconductors; develop gate‑driver strategies, protection schemes, and high‑frequency architectures.

  • Ensure EMI/EMC compliance through modeling, design techniques, and testing aligned with MIL STD and aerospace requirements; provide recommendations for layout and filtering.

  • Lead hands-on engineering activities including prototype bring‑up, debugging, characterization, and formal validation of power hardware.

  • Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, and verification documentation, ensuring technical rigor across development stages from breadboard to qualification.

  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with systems, digital design, mechanical/thermal engineering, manufacturing, and integration teams to ensure cohesive subsystem performance.

  • Contribute to and maintain system requirements, traceability, design artifacts, and engineering documentation in accordance with review and compliance processes.

  • Drive root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and production support for power hardware.

  • Participate and present in technical design reviews, trade studies, proposals, and IRAD/technology maturation activities; influence architecture and design direction.

  • Mentor P1–P2 engineers, providing technical guidance and review support.

Qualification You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and a minimum 5 years of experience in power electronics design, analysis, or test

  • Experience with switched-mode power converter topologies (buck, boost, flyback, half/full bridge, resonant, PFC, motor control)

  • Experience using simulation tools such as SPICE, LTspice, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink for design and verification

  • Lab experience with oscilloscopes, power analyzers, high‑voltage equipment, and/or electronic loads

  • Experience with high-power, high-voltage safety principles and best practices.

Qualification We Prefer

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in power electronics, control systems, or electromagnetics.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership in developing power conversion hardware from concept through qualification and production.

  • Experience with high‑voltage and high‑power systems including >1 kW converters or >600 V architectures.

  • Proficiency with advanced modeling tools (PSIM, PLECS, MATLAB, ANSYS, Flotherm, Maxwell).

  • Experience designing custom magnetics including planar magnetics, high‑frequency inductors, and radiation‑tolerant transformers.

  • Strong familiarity with digital control implementation, firmware collaboration, and closed‑loop tuning for power stages.

  • Background in EMI/EMC mitigation, compliance testing, and certification to MIL or DO standards.

  • Experience supporting proposals, ROM estimates, and technical volume writing.

  • Prior mentorship or technical oversight of junior engineers.

What We Offer

  • Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At RTX we value: Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation.
