POSITION SPECIFICS The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) at The Pennsylvania State University is hiring multiple Tenure-track or Tenured faculty in Quantum Computing as part of an ambitious multi-year cluster hire in Quantum Science across multiple university units. The search is administered by the Quantum Hub within the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences. The focus of this year's search is on faculty with expertise in Quantum Computing with particular focus on Quantum Algorithms, Quantum Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and/or Quantum Security. The successful candidates will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research community at Penn State and will have collaborative opportunities and access to extensive resources offered by Institutes within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research (OSVPR). Faculty members in these positions will be expected to develop world-recognized research programs, create innovative graduate and undergraduate curricula in quantum computing, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor graduate students, secure external funding to support research activities, and engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research and scholarship at the University. As a joint appointment, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to both their tenure home units and to the institutes. Applicants should submit a single PDF through the application portal containing the following materials in this order: cover letter, teaching statement, research statement, the names and contact information for four references, and their curriculum vitae. The cover letter should explicitly specify the one position to which the applicant is applying (see below for information about calls for each department). Each applicant must apply to one position only. Applications received by January 3rd, 2026*, will be given full consideration.* For Questions, contact ICDS director Guido Cervone ([email protected]). Penn State Academic Ranks Defined: Assistant professors should show early promise in teaching or research through emerging scholarly or professional contributions. Associate professors should have a record of high-quality publications and demonstrate teaching excellence in their field. Full professors should demonstrate a distinguished record of advanced work and leadership, reflecting established excellence in teaching, mentoring, and/or research. Open positions include: Department of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Engineering, University Park, PA: An Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor whose research and teaching advance quantum computing and quantum information science, with particular interest in quantum algorithms, quantum machine learning (QML), quantum software and systems, quantum architectures, and related areas. The department seeks to strengthen its research potential in quantum computing by building upon its strong existing research groups in quantum algorithms, theoretical computer science, computer architecture, and systems, which provide a rich foundation for interdisciplinary research. Candidates m st possess a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline, before their appointment start date. Department of Privacy and Cybersecurity Informatics (PCI), College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST), University Park, PA in conjunction with the National Security Institute (NSI) at Penn State: An Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor whose research and teaching advance quantum security, post-quantum cybersecurity, and secure and trustworthy systems for the quantum era. The department seeks to build national leadership and research capacity at the intersection of quantum computing and cybersecurity, including security of quantum algorithms, post-quantum cryptography, quantum-safe critical infrastructure, and trustworthy, resilient, and policy-aware security for emerging quantum technologies. Candidates must possess a PhD in Computer Science, Informatics, Cybersecurity, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related discipline, before their appointment start date.
