Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and lead technical assignments for municipal water and wastewater treatment projects and associated infrastructure.

  • Evaluate existing treatment facilities, analyze operating data, and develop alternatives and recommendations.

  • Perform process and hydraulic calculations to evaluate, size, and select treatment systems and equipment.

  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

  • Coordinate the work of other engineering disciplines, designers, technical specialists, and subconsultants.

  • Manage assigned tasks to meet project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements.

  • Support permitting and coordination with regulatory agencies.

  • Provide engineering services during construction, including submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and site visits.

  • Participate in field investigations, condition assessments, pilot testing, and facility startup and commissioning.

  • Develop relationships with utility staff and participate in client meetings and technical presentations.

  • Assist with proposals, including developing scopes of work and engineering fee estimates.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

  • May serve as project manager on smaller projects, depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related engineering field.

  • 6 to 12 years of relevant water and wastewater engineering experience, with significant experience in the planning and design of municipal water and/or wastewater treatment facilities.

  • Experience delivering municipal water and/or wastewater projects in the Raleigh-Durham market.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in North Carolina.

  • Experience evaluating and designing municipal water and/or wastewater treatment processes, systems, and equipment.

  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

  • Working knowledge of North Carolina design standards and permitting requirements applicable to municipal water and wastewater projects.

  • Ability to lead technical assignments, coordinate project staff, and deliver quality work within budgets and schedules.

  • Sound engineering judgment and the ability to develop practical recommendations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related engineering field.

  • Experience providing engineering services during construction and supporting facility startup and commissioning.

  • Experience serving as project manager for smaller municipal water and/or wastewater projects.

  • Familiarity with treatment process or hydraulic modeling software.

Compensation Range

An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
