Job Description
Overview We're seeking a web developer with strong backend and API-integration experience to help build and expand a web platform for worker onboarding, security/access management, and operational compliance in a data-center environment. The platform runs today at one site and is being scaled to multiple locations across the organization. You'll own features end-to-end — backend, data, and a clean server-rendered UI — working directly with the product owner in a fast, iterative, AI-assisted workflow (we develop alongside an AI coding assistant; you'll review, extend, and harden that work as well as write your own). Tech stack: PHP 8.2 (procedural, server-rendered), MariaDB/MySQL, Docker/Docker Compose, Linux (AlmaLinux, cPanel/WHM, Apache + AutoSSL), vanilla JavaScript + HTML/CSS, Git/GitHub. No SPA framework — this is a server-rendered application. Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance the platform's onboarding, security, and operational workflows.
- Build and maintain integrations: consume third-party REST APIs (e.g., a physical access-control / badge system), build internal webhook endpoints, and run scheduled sync, import, and reconciliation jobs.
- Scale the platform for multi-site use, including per-site data isolation/scoping.
- Write careful, well-tested changes against live data — migrations, backfills, de-duplication, and record matching — with attention to data integrity.
- Create clean, intuitive server-rendered interfaces and workflows.
- Improve performance, reliability, and security.
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions; troubleshoot application issues, integration failures, and performance bottlenecks.
- Follow lightweight iterative process: small changes, code review, changelog entries, and version discipline; collaborate in an AI-assisted development workflow.
Skills and Requirements
Required Qualifications
-
3+ years of professional web development.
-
Strong PHP and hands-on SQL (MySQL/MariaDB) — you can model data and write and optimize queries directly.
-
Strong experience building and consuming RESTful APIs, including auth, pagination/rate limits, and resync/reconciliation logic.
-
Comfortable with Docker and Linux server environments (self-hosted, not just managed cloud).
-
Solid vanilla JavaScript / HTML / CSS for server-rendered UIs.
-
Web-app security fundamentals: parameterized queries / injection prevention, access control, PII handling, audit logging.
-
Able to design intuitive interfaces and improve UX.
-
Strong troubleshooting; works independently in a remote role; comfortable with Git/GitHub. Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience supporting applications in data-center, infrastructure, or enterprise-operations environments.
-
Onboarding, access-management, or physical-security/badge workflow experience.
-
Experience building multi-site/multi-tenant applications with per-site data scoping.
-
Comfort working alongside AI coding tools (reviewing and extending AI-generated code).
-
UX/UI design experience.
-
Google Apps Script or spreadsheet-driven integrations.
-
Authentication / authorization / identity-management integration experience.
-
cPanel/WHM, Apache, or self-hosted deployment experience.
