Division Chief - Breast Imaging - Clinician--Educator - Senior Ranks

The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician-educator track. The selected candidate will serve as the Division Chief of Breast Imaging in the Department of Radiology. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Candidates in this track must have demonstrated exceptional clinical, research, and teaching skills. Applicants must be American Board of Radiology certified or eligible with subspecialty training in Breast Radiology.

Teaching responsibilities may include daily clinical supervision of residents and fellows and didactic teaching for medical students, radiology residents, fellows, and trainees from other departments. In addition, the candidate would be expected to participate in educational and/or other scholarly activities within and beyond Penn Radiology, such as preparing learning materials, lectures, and educational exhibits for national meetings, as well as mentorship and sponsorship.

Clinical responsibilities may include interpretation of breast imaging studies and performance of procedures involving all modalities (tomosynthesis (including contrast-enhanced mammography), ultrasound, and MRI) at a subspecialty level commensurate with a quaternary care center. The successful candidate will also participate in shared after-hour coverage, as needed.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include leading a focused body of research in a field within breast imaging. This includes the application of imaging to detect, diagnose or evaluate diseases of the breast, as well as studies of the clinical impact of imaging in the diagnosis of these diseases. The successful candidate in the clinician-educator track will have prior research experience, have demonstrated evidence of peer-reviewed scholarship, and be expected to provide mentorship to aspiring junior faculty seeking to develop a research career in the field of Breast Imaging.

Successful applicants should have a compelling, patient-first vision for Breast Imaging, focused on delivering exceptional care to the communities that Penn serves, while also breaking new ground in the field, and leading at national and international levels. They should demonstrate strong leadership skills, and a national reputation for clinical excellence and for prioritizing research and innovation. A track record of mentoring learners and/or junior faculty will be considered an important strength, as will doing so in the context of research and other scholarly activities. Administrative responsibilities will span the tripartite mission, and include operational execution, as well as recruiting, developing, and retaining a distinct group of faculty dedicated to practicing in a highly subspecialized and dynamic environment.

The section interprets close to 65,000 examinations per year performed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital, and additional associated practices. Research resources within Penn Radiology include dedicated 1.5T, 3T, and 7T MRI systems and a comprehensive scientific infrastructure with programs focusing on applications of quantitative image analysis, imaging genomics, molecular imaging and precision diagnostics and therapies, hyperpolarized gases, artificial intelligence, and health services research.

Penn Radiology provides clinical services for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia Veteran Affairs Medical Center, and affiliated outpatient imaging centers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey; a new site of care in Delaware is expected in the Spring of 2027.

This position requires a minimum of 5+ years of experience. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
