Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description
The Phlebotomist plays a key role in supporting laboratory operations by performing blood draws and other specimen collections, processing and storing samples, troubleshooting workflow issues, and contributing to a safe and efficient patient service environment. This position involves direct patient interaction, accurate specimen handling, and adherence to established procedures and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture and blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles with a high level of accuracy and care.

Collect and store specimens, including blood, urine, and fecal samples, in accordance with established procedures and protocols.

Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.

Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify that all information is complete and accurate.

Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and laboratory protocols.

Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against scripts or orders to ensure 100% accuracy.

Package specimens for transport, following defined procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transit.

Store specimen samples at the required temperatures and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes, accurately labeling each sample.

Follow specific protocols and procedures for specimen transport to ensure sample quality and compliance with guidelines.

Update patient information and related data in laboratory or hospital systems accurately and in a timely manner.

Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures as required to support equipment reliability and a clean work area.

Assist with troubleshooting issues in specimen collection or processing and make workflow recommendations to improve efficiency.

Understand and fully interpret physicians orders related to laboratory tests and specimen requirements.

Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results or information as needed to satisfy inquiries, following applicable policies.

Attend annual department trainings and stay current with procedural updates and best practices.

Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all relevant safety and infection control standards.
Essential Skills
-
Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required.

Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.

Proficiency in venipuncture and blood draw techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

Demonstrated experience with specimen collection and processing, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing samples.

Ability to accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify orders.

Skill in updating patient information and recording maintenance and decontamination data.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

High school diploma or GED.

02 years of overall work experience in a related healthcare or laboratory setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Phlebotomy certificate or diploma.

Approximately 1 year of phlebotomy experience preferred.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment such as a hospital or clinical laboratory.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining specimen integrity.

Effective communication skills to explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients.

Ability to interpret physicians orders and follow detailed laboratory protocols.

Work Environment
This position is based in a patient service site, where you work directly with patients and healthcare staff in a clinical setting. The environment is fast paced and focused on accurate specimen collection and processing. You will use standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment such as needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and computer systems for data entry and label verification. Work involves following established safety and infection control procedures, adhering to regulatory guidelines, and participating in regular department training. The setting supports professional interaction with patients and colleagues and requires consistent attention to detail and compliance with laboratory protocols.

This is a Contract position based out of Mount Pleasant, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
