The PEX Power Electrical Commissioning Group supports power generation facilities, compressor stations, plants, and other energy infrastructure assets from design through construction, commissioning, startup, and turnover. The Staff Electrical Commissioning Project Manager provides senior-level technical leadership and expertise for the planning, execution, testing, commissioning, and startup of complex electrical systems. This role leads commissioning efforts across multiple projects or highly complex initiatives, develops commissioning strategies, standards, and best practices, and serves as a subject matter expert for electrical system readiness, energization, startup, and operational turnover.

Responsibilities/Expectations

  • Leads electrical commissioning activities for multiple large-scale or complex projects, providing oversight from design support and construction through startup, energization, and turnover.

  • Develops and implements commissioning strategies, plans, procedures, schedules, and readiness reviews to ensure safe and successful project execution.

  • Serves as the technical subject matter expert for electrical systems, providing leadership in testing, energization, startup, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex system issues.

  • Coordinates and influences Engineering, Construction, Operations, Maintenance, contractors, vendors, and project leadership to achieve project objectives.

  • Identifies and manages commissioning risks, ensuring compliance with company safety requirements, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.

  • Develops and improves commissioning standards, tools, procedures, and best practices while mentoring commissioning personnel and project teams.

  • Communicates project status, key risks, and recommendations to leadership and support the successful turnover of systems to Operations and Maintenance.

  • Others duties as assigned.

Education/Years of Experience

  • Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution or related engineering discipline.

  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in electrical commissioning, startup, power generation, construction, engineering, or project execution.

  • Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Engineering Management, or related field.

  • 15 or more years of experience with utility-scale power generation facilities, transmission systems, substations, BESS, or large industrial projects.

  • 15 or more years of experience working within Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project environments.

Other Requirements

  • Extensive experience supporting power generation, industrial, utility, transmission, or EPC projects.

  • Expertise leading complex electrical commissioning, startup, testing, and energization activities for large-scale projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical power systems, controls, protection systems, relay coordination, and startup processes.

  • Ability to lead complex projects, commissioning programs, or multiple concurrent workstreams.

  • Ability to influence, collaborate with, and lead cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority.

  • Strong project management, communication, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Shift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 75%
