Overview

System Engineers deploy, optimize, and support advanced ArcGIS implementations in complex customer environments for Professional Services engagements. They partner directly with customers to consult on ArcGIS Enterprise architecture, deployment, configuration, integration, and performance optimization. In addition, they serve as leaders within the Esri community, sharing expertise on system performance, troubleshooting, scalability, compute capacity, security, and best practices for enterprise GIS environments.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy complex ArcGIS solutions in multifaceted environments, including multiple data centers, geographically distributed deployments, disaster recovery architectures, advanced cloud-native capabilities, deployment automation, and specialized or emerging configuration patterns

  • Configure and optimize ArcGIS Enterprise environments to meet Professional Services customers' service level agreements (SLAs) and operational requirements

  • Exercise excellent judgment to advise customers on innovative, effective, and creative solutions that leverage Esri technology and content to support better decision-making

  • Recommend appropriate strategies, architectures, and solutions, and collaborate with customers to develop ArcGIS implementation, upgrade, and migration plans

  • Apply critical thinking to assess business and technical requirements, design resilient architectures, and mitigate operational risks

  • Collaborate with Professional Services staff to resolve complex deployment issues and technical challenges

  • Participate in Esri and Professional Services technical communities by contributing to product discussions, sharing expertise, and recommending implementation best practices

  • Partner closely with Professional Services customers and business partners to identify, design, validate, and optimize key GIS workflows on the ArcGIS Enterprise platform

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience implementing, administering, and supporting enterprise GIS solutions

  • Experience deploying and supporting advanced enterprise GIS solutions using Esri software products

  • Experience with Windows and/or Linux system administration in enterprise environments

  • Experience designing, implementing, and administering relational database management systems, including SQL Server, Oracle, and/or PostgreSQL

  • Experience with Enterprise Geodatabases is highly desirable

  • Familiarity with networking concepts and technologies, including domains, Active Directory, DNS, HTTPS, firewalls, proxies, load balancing, and network security

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to customers, executives, technical teams, and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to assess business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable, reliable GIS solutions

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Mathematics, Engineering, or a related STEM field

Recommended Qualifications

  • Experience with modern technology implementation patterns, including service-oriented architectures (SOA), cloud computing, and cloud-native solutions

  • Knowledge of software engineering principles and experience applying application development best practices to design, deploy, and support enterprise systems

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Mathematics, Engineering, or a related STEM field

Base salary is one component of our total rewards strategy. Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is $120,640—$197,600 USD
