Full job description

The mission of the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is to serve students, support teachers, empower parents, and engage the community so that every student graduates prepared to reach their full potential. Role Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director of the Office of Assessment and Standards, the Education Associate supports schools and districts in the effective implementation of the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards for elementary social studies. The position develops, implements, and evaluates standards, instructional resources, and professional learning opportunities designed to support the knowledge, skills, and characteristics that define the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and assist in the development and revision of South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Academic Standards and supporting materials for elementary social studies.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate professional learning opportunities that strengthen the capacity of teachers, administrators, and district personnel to support student achievement in elementary social studies.
  • Collaborate with SCDE teams, offices, and divisions, as well as external agencies, community organizations, colleges, and universities at the state and national levels, to provide timely and effective support to stakeholders.
  • Engage in professional growth opportunities that strengthen the Office of Assessment and Standards’ capacity to model and support effective educational practices.
  • Implement assigned tasks and achieve established goals with minimal supervision while reporting progress regularly to the assigned team leader.
  • Complete other duties as assigned, including possible substantial in-state travel to provide training and limited out-of-state travel.

This position is located in the Office of Assessment and Standards. A bachelor's degree and experience in education, management or business.

  • Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of experience in Elementary Education/Social Studies or closely related professional experience.

  • Experience developing and implementing resources that support student learning.

  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating professional learning opportunities that support student learning.

  • Experience evaluating outcomes using qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Experience with coaching, administration, and professional development facilitation is required.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, sound judgment, initiative, and a team-oriented approach.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and to give and receive constructive feedback.

This position requires occasional overnight travel, limited out-of-state travel, and may involve substantial in-state travel to support training and technical assistance activities throughout South Carolina.
