Full job description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) Program Assistant provides overall program, clerical, and operational support to staff, and administration within the Virtual Learning Academy. The Program Assistant serves as the primary support assigned to the 12:1 +1 setting, supports special education compliance and documentation and performs other duties as assigned by the Principal to ensure the effective operation of the VLA.

Classroom Support

  • Provide organizational support to teaching staff and administration.

  • Support VLA programs in tracking Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and services as directed, ensuring compliance with special education documentation and program deliverables

Special Education Support

  • Complete and maintain special education paperwork and documentation as directed by the Principal of the Virtual Learning Academy.

  • Assist with the collection, organization, and filing of student records and compliance-related documents.

  • Support the scheduling and preparation of meetings, communications, and other special education processes as needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with applicable laws and district policies.

Attendance and Family Engagement

  • Monitor and support student attendance within assigned programs and classrooms.

  • Conduct guardian outreach regarding attendance concerns, student engagement, and related matters.

  • Collaborate with school personnel to support attendance improvement strategies

Administrative Support

  • Assist VLA administration with day-to-day operational and organizational tasks.

  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and other materials as requested

  • Support program initiatives, student services, and administrative projects.

  • Assist with student enrollment, record maintenance, and other office functions as assigned.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or designee in support of Virtual Learning Academy operations.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in a school setting is preferred

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately

  • Proficiency with technology and educational software platforms

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and administrators

Job Qualifications

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from a NYS registered or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree, OR

  • Graduation from a NYS registered or regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree and two years of clerical experience in an office setting which must have involved maintaining electronic records in a database or spreadsheet applications; OR

  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and four years of clerical experience in an office setting which must have involved maintaining electronic records in a database or spreadsheet application; OR

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as outlined by the limits of A), B) and C) above.

  • Broome County Civil Service examination required
