Full job description

York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State.

York Technical College invites applications for the Vice President for Communications and External Relations, a strategic executive leadership role responsible for strengthening the College's relationships, reputation, and community impact. Reporting directly to the President, this position provides leadership across three interconnected areas: development and fundraising, business and industry partnerships, and marketing and communications.

We recognize that exceptional leaders bring different professional strengths. The ideal candidate will demonstrate significant accomplishments and a strong trajectory of professional growth and expertise in at least one of these three areas, coupled with exceptional leadership skills and the ability to provide strategic direction across the entire portfolio. We do not expect candidates to possess equal subject-matter expertise in all three disciplines.

As a member of the College's executive leadership team, the Vice President will develop and empower talented professionals, build meaningful internal and external relationships, and translate institutional priorities into measurable results. Success in this role requires strategic thinking, sound judgment, collaboration, and the ability to bring people and resources together around a shared vision.

Key Areas of Leadership

Development and Fundraising: Providing strategic direction for philanthropic giving, donor engagement, fundraising campaigns, and grants development to expand resources supporting student success and institutional priorities.

Business and Industry Partnerships: Building and strengthening relationships with employers, industry leaders, and community stakeholders to advance workforce development, economic opportunity, and collaborative programming.

Marketing and Communications: Guiding comprehensive marketing, branding, public relations, and crisis communications strategies that strengthen the College's reputation, visibility, and stakeholder engagement.

Strategic and Organizational Leadership: Establishing priorities, developing teams, aligning resources, and fostering collaboration across the College's external-facing functions. Advancing York Tech's "front porch" approach to create coordinated and welcoming experiences for external stakeholders.

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible professional experience, including significant leadership responsibility, in at least one of the following areas: development and fundraising, business and industry partnerships, or marketing and communications.

  • Demonstrated accomplishments and a record of continued professional growth in at least one of these three areas.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, establish strategic priorities, build collaborative relationships, and achieve organizational results.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

  • A comprehensive application package includes a fully completed application detailing your entire employment history, as well as attachments including a cover letter, a curriculum vitae or resume, and examples of work highlighting your individual contributions, leadership accomplishments, and areas of professional expertise.

  • Applicants indicating degree(s) on the application may be required to provide unofficial copies of transcripts during the application process and official transcripts upon hire.
