Summary The Deputy Chief of Staff is aligned under the Chief of Staff and plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief of Staff and enhancing the efficiency of the office. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. 1. Assisting with Day-to-Day Operations: The Deputy Chief of Staff will oversee daily operations and ensure that urgent matters are addressed promptly, allowing the Chief of Staff to focus on strategic initiatives. 2. Leading Specific Areas: The Deputy Chief of Staff will be assigned specific areas of responsibility, such as policy implementation, project management, or interdepartmental coordination. 3. Facilitating Communication: The Deputy Chief of Staff will act as a liaison between the Chief of Staff and other departments, promoting effective communication and collaboration across the organization. 4. Managing Special Projects: The Deputy Chief of Staff will lead and manage special projects or initiatives assigned by the Chief of Staff, ensuring that they are completed on time and within scope. 5. Supporting Decision-Making: The Deputy Chief of Staff will gather and analyze data to provide comprehensive reports and recommendations, thereby supporting the Chief of Staff in informed decisionmaking processes. 6. Representation: In the absence of the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff will represent the office in meetings and other official functions, ensuring continuity and consistency in leadership. The creation of the Deputy Chief of Staff position is expected to yield several significant benefits for the organization, including: - Timely Responses: With a dedicated Deputy Chief of Staff, the organization can achieve faster and more effective responses to emerging issues and crises. - Enhanced Leadership Focus: The Chief of Staff will be able to concentrate on strategic priorities, while the Deputy Chief of Staff manages specific operational areas. - Improved Efficiency: The division of responsibilities will lead to more streamlined operations, reducing bottlenecks and enhancing overall organizational performance. - Increased Capacity for Innovation: With additional leadership support, the organization will have greater capacity to undertake innovative projects and initiatives, driving continuous improvement. Other Duties as assigned. Work Schedule: M-F 0800-1630 Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized Requirements Conditions of Employment All qualified candidates encouraged to apply. Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). You may be required to serve a probationary period. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. AND Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. AND Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Preferred Experience: Initial and ongoing ABMS or AOA Board Certification in a Medical Specialty with an extensive background in clinical practice. Three or more years of clinical leadership experience at a VA Medical Center at the Service Chief level or above. Demonstrable familiarity with healthcare laws, regulations, and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, VA policies). Proven ability to lead complex healthcare initiatives, build collaborative relationships within and outside the organization, and effectively employ quality improvement processes.
