Full job description

About Ema Ema builds AI Employees for HR, IT and Finance. Our AI Employees take on the busy work across the employee experience, from recruiting, onboarding and benefits to IT support, invoice processing and payroll, so people can spend their time on work that needs them. Founded by former executives from Google, Coinbase, Flipkart, and Okta, our team includes engineers from premier tech companies and graduates of Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, CMU, and IITs.

We are backed by industry leading investors including Accel, Naspers/Prosus, Creaegis, Section32, and angels like Sheryl Sandberg and Dustin Moskovitz. Headquartered in Silicon Valley and with offices in London, Bangalore and Vancouver, Ema is at the frontier of what Agentic AI can do in production. We ship real systems that run real business processes at scale.

About the Role We're looking for a Senior Manager, Accounting to take significant ownership across Ema's accounting operation as the company scales. Reporting directly to the CFO, and with a growth path to Controller, you'll be responsible for major portions of the accounting close, financial reporting, technical accounting, audit process, and accounting infrastructure. This is a hands-on, builder role: you'll execute the work while continuously improving the processes, systems, controls, and automation behind it.

What You Will Own

  • Own significant portions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring accuracy and full compliance with US GAAP.

  • Lead and coordinate consolidation of results across entities, producing clean, audit-ready consolidated financial statements.

  • Build and maintain revenue accounting processes suited to a SaaS and usage-based business, including judgment-heavy areas such as revenue recognition under ASC 606.

  • Help evaluate, select, and deploy ERP and close-management tooling, with a strong bias toward AI-native systems that reduce manual work rather than add to it.

  • Design and continuously improve scalable accounting policies, controls, documentation, and processes that hold up as the company grows quickly.

  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Legal, and the broader business to support fundraising, board reporting, and ad hoc financial analysis.Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; help plan and run the annual audit end-to-end, manage PBC lists, and resolve technical accounting issues as they arise.

  • Identify and eliminate manual, repetitive accounting work, using AI tools - including Ema itself - wherever they can make the close faster, cleaner, and more scalable.

  • Work closely with the CFO and finance leadership on accounting-related initiatives and broader finance priorities.

What You Bring

  • Deep working knowledge of US GAAP, with 5-7+ years of experience in SaaS or usage-based revenue businesses, including revenue recognition complexity under ASC 606.

  • Direct experience with multi-entity financial reporting and consolidation.

  • A track record of evaluating and deploying ERP or accounting systems, and genuine fluency with AI tools as part of your everyday accounting workflow.

  • Experience owning or significantly contributing to the auditor relationship and leading a financial statement audit from planning through completion.

  • CPA required; public accounting background a plus.

  • Comfort operating without a large team around you: you will build and improve the function, not simply manage an established process.

  • Strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to move between hands-on execution and higher-level process design.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for variable compensation, equity, and benefits. Ema Unlimited is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or genetics.
