Our Engineering Boot Camp is a full-time Engineer I role paired with a structured training anddevelopment program built to accelerate your growth in the power industry. As a Boot CampEngineer, you'll dive into focused classroom instruction led by seasoned Qualus engineers andindustry experts, participate in immersive site visits, and gain hands-on substation safety andequipment training. You'll also receive guided preparation for the FE exam to help you build a strong technical foundation from day one.

As a Protection & Control Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of utility substation Protection & Control (P&C) engineering design packages that include drawings such as one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, AC/DC Elementary diagrams, circuit schedules, logic diagrams, operating diagrams, and more.
The 2027 Engineering Boot Camp, powered by Qualus University, will be starting July 2027. As a program participant, you will receive an offer to be a full-time employee with Qualus.
Responsibilities
-
Coordinate with Substation Design Engineers, Relay Settings Engineers, and othergroups to ensure design concurrence.

Development of complete engineering design packages for protective relaying andcommunication systems, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DCschematics, logic and functional diagrams, panel layouts, control house layouts,wiring/connection diagrams, interconnection diagrams, relaying equipmentspecifications and bill of materials.

Working on project teams supporting all quality and project management goals.

Meeting all project deadlines and supporting the processes and procedures to meetdeadlines.

Maintaining up-to-date technical skills related to the design of electricalsubstations and protection and control schematics for the electric utility power gridthrough on-the-job work and formal training.

Substation awareness and Safety consciousness.

Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substationequipment.

Good PC skills and the ability to support testing activities as required by the projectlead.

Develop drawings and assist in the preparation of design packages usingCAD/drafting skills.Preparing additional support documentation as needed to assist procurement,construction, and operation/maintenance of systems being designed.

Consistently following established design standards and CAD drafting standardswhile assuring quality, accuracy, and completeness.

Identifying process improvement ideas and commuting ideas through appropriatemanagement channels.
Minimum Qualifications
-
BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with a focus on power systems.

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Microsoft Office product application.
-
Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (a plus).

Educational experience directly related to working with [medium to high voltage] electricity (preferred).

Must have the ability to work independently, and accurately, and have high attention to detail.

Strong communication skills and the ability to eƯectively discuss technical recommendations with customers.

Strong computer skills.
