Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. To be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

Qualifications required: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university Or Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university and one year experience in Information Technology Or three years of working paid experience in Information Technology

Duties and/or Essential Responsibilities: The Student Support Technician reports to the Manager of Client Support Services and performs the following duties:

  • Provides in-person, telephone, email, and remote technology support exclusively to Hudson Valley Community College students.

  • Assists students with accessing and using their college computer accounts, email, authentication services, and college approved software.

  • Responds to technology questions from students attending courses on campus, off campus, and online.

  • Diagnoses and resolves common student hardware, software, account-access, operating system, application, printing, and connectivity issues.

  • Documents student support requests and refers or escalates issues that require assistance from appropriate college areas.

  • Provides individual guidance and non-course-based training to students on the proper use of college-supported technology.

  • Supports students using adaptive technology and specialized equipment available in student computing and learning spaces.

  • Assists students with the operation of computer lab equipment, printers, peripherals, and multimedia technology.

  • Monitors student computing areas assigned and promotes the appropriate use of college equipment, systems, and technology resources.

  • Identifies college equipment problems and submits maintenance, repair, or replacement requests through the appropriate Instructional and Information Technology (IIT) process.

  • Maintains student-facing instructions, support documentation, and knowledge resources for commonly used college technologies.

  • Communicates with Instructional and Information Technology (IIT) to remain informed about changes to student accounts, systems, software, equipment, services, and applicable policies.

  • Assists with the orientation and guidance of work-study students and other student employees assigned to student technology support areas.

  • Maintains current knowledge of the technologies, applications, operating systems, and multimedia systems used by students.

  • May work evening or weekend hours based on student support and operational needs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary range of $46,000-$49,000. Position start up date: November 2, 2026.
