Job Description Summary

Job Description

Business Overview

Edison Works is a specialized advanced technology team that is defining the next-generation of military propulsion for the U.S. Armed Forces and its allies. Our team is dedicated to research, development, production, and support of technology breakthroughs that provide strategic advantage in advanced combat environments. This includes partnering with existing and start-up defense companies to deliver capabilities to warfighters at a speed that today’s fast-paced world requires.

In this role, you will join the Next Generation Products (NGP) Steady-State Performance team, advancing Adaptive Cycle Engine (ACE) new product introduction (NPI) efforts for applications such as the F‑35 and other next‑generation combat aircraft, grounded in GE’s long‑term investments in science and technology.

Role Overview

As a Steady-State Performance Lead Engineer, you will be a key technical contributor in the definition, development, and testing of next‑generation adaptive engines, including the XA102. You will collaborate across Systems, Steady-State Performance, Operability, Controls, and Transient Performance (SPOCT), Design teams, and with customers, to develop, predict, and validate engine performance capability.

Near‑term focus areas include supporting maturation of engine designs, preparing for engine test, data reduction, and test planning, and partnering with airframers to enable integrated aircraft platforms.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop thermodynamic cycle models and perform analyses using Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS), including pre‑test prediction and data‑reduction models.

  • Plan performance‑related test coverage, analyze test data, compare results to predictions, and propose options to resolve performance issues identified during design and test.

  • Perform trade studies to evaluate alternative design options and document recommendations.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with SPOCT, other internal engineering partners, and external customers.

  • Define and conduct testing of equipment and/or systems, select appropriate testing strategies and measurement systems, and report performance against guaranteed values in accordance with industry standards.

  • Participate in research, design, development, and enhancement of technologies focused on performance, operability, and cost optimization.

  • Apply in‑depth technical knowledge, analytical thinking, and engineering experience to execute strategy and act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • Use sound judgment to propose solutions beyond set parameters, including complex, interdependent manufacturing or production processes.

  • Clearly explain technical information and help bring team members to consensus.

  • Lead small projects with low risk and resource requirements, convey performance expectations, and handle sensitive issues as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum of 3 years of Engineering experience (ideally Aerospace, Mechanical, and/or Test)

  • This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active U.S. government security clearance

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college

  • 5+ years of experience in Engineering, ideally leading testing

  • Experience with system‑level thermodynamic modeling and/or data analysis

  • Working knowledge of NPSS

  • Working knowledge of data plotting / visualization tools

  • Strong foundation in thermodynamics and aerodynamics

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross‑functional teams and operate credibly in an engineering‑driven culture

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
