Full job description
Description
Are you excited about building software that impacts millions of customers? We are looking for a Software Development Engineer II who is ready to take on meaningful technical challenges, deliver high-quality features, and help shape the systems that power Amazon's products and services. In this role, you will own the full software development lifecycle—from understanding customer needs through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations. You will work alongside talented engineers in a collaborative environment where your ideas matter and your contributions have real impact. If you are a self-starter who thrives on solving complex problems with simple, well-crafted solutions, we would love to hear from you.
Key job responsibilities
-
Design, implement, and maintain software features across major components of your team's systems, contributing to the full development lifecycle including scoping, coding, testing, deployment, and operational support.
-
Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code while actively participating in code reviews to provide meaningful feedback and mentor fellow engineers on best practices.
-
Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions that balance customer needs with system scalability and performance.
-
Evaluate and integrate generative AI tools where appropriate to augment productivity and solution quality, while applying responsible practices to refine outputs.
-
Identify and resolve root causes of operational issues, proactively improve team processes, and contribute to the long-term reliability and maintainability of your team's software.
A day in the life
Your morning might start with a design discussion where you sketch out an approach to a new feature, weighing tradeoffs around scalability and maintainability with your teammates. After lunch, you could be deep in code, building and testing a solution end to end, then jumping into a code review where you share constructive feedback with a colleague. You will regularly connect with product partners to ensure what you are building aligns with customer needs, and you will have space to explore new technologies and approaches that can improve your team's systems.

Our team is focused on building reliable, scalable software that directly improves the customer experience at Amazon.
