Job Description

Their main job is to make sure the facility is operating safely, protecting employees, and following all environmental regulations. On a typical day, they will:

  • Monitor and manage the plant's environmental permits and compliance requirements.
  • Work with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure manufacturing processes are safe and meet EPA, OSHA, and state regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections, environmental audits, and risk assessments throughout the facility.
  • Investigate safety incidents or environmental concerns and make sure corrective actions are completed.
  • Oversee compliance related to air emissions, waste disposal, chemical handling, stormwater, and wastewater management.
  • Support facility upgrades and new equipment installations by ensuring all environmental and safety requirements are addressed before production begins.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies, consultants, and inspectors during audits, reporting activities, and permitting processes.
  • Lead employee safety and environmental compliance initiatives while driving continuous improvement across the plant.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing, with strong hands-on environmental compliance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. environmental regulations and practical experience with environmental permitting, air emissions, waste, wastewater/stormwater, and regulatory reporting.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and manufacturing safety programs.
  • Must have Brownfield experience
  • Experience in automotive or automotive component manufacturing.
  • Environmental compliance experience with painting/coating, die casting, injection molding, and/or welding operations.
  • Strong experience with air permitting and VOC/HAP emissions compliance.
  • Experience supporting brownfield facility development, plant expansion, equipment installation, or new production launches.
  • Familiarity with Alabama environmental regulations and ADEM permitting/compliance requirements.
  • CHMM, CSP, CIH, PE, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 experience
