Full job description
As an Assistant Branch Manager at Woodforest National Bank, you are a key leader supporting the Branch Manager in driving branch performance, customer relationship growth, and operational excellence. You will operate with an ownership mindset, helping to execute retail sales and marketing strategies, coach team members, and ensure consistent delivery of the Woodforest Experience.
This role requires a hands-on leader who balances customer engagement, frontline coaching, community involvement, and operational discipline—while modeling Woodforest’s Core Values of Ownership, Service, Community, and Integrity every day.
Key Responsibilities:
Ownership
- Partner with the Branch Manager to operate the branch with a business-owner mindset, supporting retail growth, deposit performance, and customer acquisition.
- Drive individual and team contribution to branch sales goals through proactive customer engagements, referrals, and marketing efforts.
- Support branch operations by ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, audits, and cash controls while modeling accountability and attention to detail.
Service
- Deliver the Woodforest Experience by maintaining a strong personal presence in the branch, engaging customers with warmth, professionalism, and solution-focused conversations, while resolving customer concerns effectively.
- Coach and support team members to uncover customer needs and confidently recommend retail banking products and services that add value.
- Ensure customers receive consistent, high-quality service across teller, platform, and digital interactions.
- Embrace and promote a technology-forward retail banking experience for both customers and team members.
Community
- Support and participate in branch-level community engagement and retail marketing activities that strengthen Woodforest’s local presence.
- Build and maintain relationships with retail partners, community members, and local businesses to drive branch traffic and relationship growth.
- Partner with Community Development Relationship Managers and branch leadership to execute outreach efforts aligned with community needs and branch goals.
Integrity
- Uphold the highest ethical standards in all customer, employee, and partner interactions.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and strict protection of customer confidentiality and privacy.
- Foster a culture of trust, transparency, and respect within the branch team.
Initiative
- Act as a visible leader and role model, reinforcing expectations around performance, behaviors, and customer experience.
- Coach, mentor, and support team members through observation, feedback, and on-the-job development.
- Assist with scheduling, workflow management, and coverage planning to support efficient operations.
- Perform branch servicing duties as needed, including teller transactions, account opening, cash handling, ATM servicing, and audits.
- Practice prudent expense management and resource stewardship.
Competencies Required:
- Must be proactive when seeking business outside of the branch.
- Inspired, goal oriented, disciplined, team leader with strong interpersonal skills, sales aptitude, and comfortable with outside sales.
- Must be open to direct coaching and feedback.
- Ability to work flexible or extended working hours to meet business needs; demonstrated reliability.
- Demonstrate a passion for taking care of people by exhibiting effective problem-solving abilities, the ability to maintain composure and convey a positive attitude while interacting with customers as well as internal team members.
- Knowledge of/or ability to quickly learn products, services, policies, procedures, regulatory guidelines, as well as engaging in as sales and service process.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality, follow directions, and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to understand instructions, forms, applications, and be familiar with financial statements and credit reports.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

3 years of relevant and transferrable sales and/or customer service experience: OR an Associate’s degree and 2 years of relevant and transferrable sales and/or customer service experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of relevant and transferrable sales and/or customer service experience.

Demonstrated leadership capability; prior supervisory or coaching experience preferred.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and marketing-oriented sales skills

Comfort working in a performance-driven retail banking environment

Ability to work flexible or extended hours based on business needs
Formal Education & Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Work Status:
- Full-Time.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Mentor or lead a team of more junior staff but does not typically have formal management responsibility for personnel decisions.
Travel:
- May be expected to support nearby branches within approximately 45 miles as business needs require.
Working Conditions:
- Conditions include standing most of the time, may involve walking, moving, bending, stooping or sitting for brief periods, and occasionally lifting and carrying items up to 30 lbs.
Technology Requirements:
- Must maintain a mobile device compatible with the Cisco Duo app for secure authentication.
