Overview

The Network Engineer Level 1 supports a multi-site network environment, assisting in the planning, design, implementation, and day-to-day operation of local and wide area networks. This role provides technical support to ensure high availability, performance, and security of network services, and may assist in evaluating and recommending new technologies to enhance current capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of multi-site LAN/WAN infrastructure within assigned span of control.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues using standard network analysis and diagnostic tools.

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of routing, switching, and network security solutions.

  • Participate in planning, testing, and deploying changes to network configurations and services.

  • Contribute to the documentation of network diagrams, IP addressing plans, configurations, and standard operating procedures.

  • Help maintain and improve network performance, reliability, and security in alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Support incident response and root cause analysis efforts for network-related events.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and, when required, customers to exchange information related to network status, incidents, and planned changes.

  • Escalate complex issues to engineers while gathering and organizing relevant technical data for efficient resolution.

  • Adhere to established processes, policies, and change management procedures.

Scope & Interaction

  • Operates within defined policies and procedures while applying independent judgment to routine and moderately complex network issues.

  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and works with management to meet those objectives.

  • Interacts daily with supervisors and peer technical staff; may interact with customers to share status, gather requirements, or clarify technical details.

  • Selects appropriate methods and techniques, within established practices, to troubleshoot and resolve network problems.

  • Solid understanding of:

  • OSI model and TCP/IP networking fundamentals

  • Dynamic routing concepts (e.g., OSPF, BGP, EIGRP or similar)

  • IP addressing and subnetting

  • Common network topologies (e.g., star, mesh, hub-and-spoke)

  • Network and physical security principles

  • Authentication and authorization concepts (e.g., RADIUS, TACACS+, 802.1X)

  • Encryption fundamentals and secure protocols

  • Firewalls, VPN technologies (remote access and site-to-site), and wireless security

  • Ability to use network analysis tools (e.g., packet captures, traceroute, ping, SNMP-based tools, log analysis) for diagnostics.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to follow and improve standard operating procedures and technical documentation.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for interaction with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desired Tools / Platform Experience

  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following is desirable:

  • Cisco routing and switching platforms

  • Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls (NGFW)

  • Aruba ClearPass or similar network access control (NAC) solutions

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field and at least 2+ years of experience in technical roles directly supporting network infrastructure; or

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in Network Engineering support in lieu of a degree.

Industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, Network+, PCNSE, Aruba, or similar) are a plus but not required.

This is a Contract position based out of Anaheim, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
