Description
Global Insurance Client is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee core accounting operations and help maintain accurate, timely financial reporting for an insurance organization in Jersey City, New Jersey. This role will guide close activities, support statutory reporting, and strengthen reconciliation and control processes across the finance function. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to partner effectively with cross-functional teams while driving process improvements. This is a hybrid role with excellent benefits.
Responsibilities:

Direct monthly and periodic close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and internal reporting packages.

Oversee completion of annual statutory financial statements and help ensure filings are accurate, complete, and submitted on schedule.

Review balance sheet and cash reconciliations each quarter, identify variances or unusual items, and coordinate follow-up through resolution.

Monitor intercompany accounting activity, resolve discrepancies with related entities, and maintain timely, accurate settlement and reporting.

Evaluate financial results and operational metrics to identify trends, highlight risks, and recommend practical actions that support business objectives.

Contribute to special initiatives such as system enhancements, integration efforts, internal control improvements, and ad hoc financial analysis.

Lead efforts to streamline workflows, improve coordination across teams, and implement more efficient accounting processes.

Provide day-to-day leadership to accounting staff by setting expectations, reinforcing accountability, and promoting high-quality deliverables.

Partner with corporate finance stakeholders as needed to support reporting, analysis, and other business priorities.
Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.

At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for close and reconciliation processes.

Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, technical accounting principles, and internal control practices.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Experience working with ERP platforms such as Oracle; familiarity with Hyperion or similar financial reporting tools is a plus.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Insurance accounting experience, public accounting background, CPA or equivalent qualification, and audit experience are preferred.
