POSITION: Senior Accountant, Corporate Financial Reporting

LOCATION: Hartford, CT (Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 days remote)

Robert Half has partnered with a well-established, publicly traded financial services organization seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Corporate Financial Reporting team. Reporting to an experienced financial reporting leader with a strong track record of internal advancement, the Senior Accountant will gain broad exposure to corporate accounting, financial reporting, and business operations. This role offers meaningful responsibility, visibility across multiple business units, and the opportunity to contribute to process improvements through technology, data analytics, and automation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead quarterly balance sheet close activities, including account reviews and discussions with finance teams regarding account activity and trends.

  • Prepare balance sheet and cash flow analyses, investigate variances, and communicate key financial drivers to management.

  • Monitor balance sheet activity, review accruals, and investigate unusual transactions or potential risk areas.

  • Perform premium receivable aging analyses, monitor bad debt reserves, and calculate credit loss reserves in accordance with accounting policies.

  • Calculate deferred and excess ceding commissions.

  • Support quarterly income statement close activities and coordinate with corporate and business unit finance teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

  • Maintain quarterly close calendars in coordination with Finance, IT, Actuarial, and other stakeholders.

  • Research accounting guidance and support compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal accounting policies, and internal controls.

  • Develop strong working relationships with finance teams and cross-functional business partners.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting and reporting processes through automation, data analytics, and technology.

  • Participate in accounting initiatives, special projects, and other financial reporting activities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of relevant accounting or financial reporting experience.

  • Experience with large-company accounting and public company financial reporting.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial statements, balance sheet accounting, reconciliations, and financial analysis.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and analysis of large datasets.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced financial close environment.

  • Systems-oriented mindset with an interest in process improvement, reporting automation, and data analytics.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA or active progress toward CPA certification.

  • Insurance industry experience.

  • Experience with financial reporting systems, data analytics tools, and process automation.

  • Experience with Workday, TM1, or OneStream.
