Full job description

Job Purpose: The Veterans Administration School Certifying Official (SCO) serves as the department’s primary technical specialist VA education benefit administration, with primary responsibility and certification of Chapter 31 and Chapter 33 students. Manages day-to-day Tuition Assistance (TA) and MyCAA processing, maintains accurate records and reporting, advises student on assigned benefit programs, and supports institutional compliance under the leadership of the Director of Military & Veterans Programs. Job Duties:

  1. Serves as the primary departmental specialist for Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment and Chapter 33 Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits. Manages certifications, amendments, adjustments, terminations, enrollment changes, required authorizations/documentation, student follow-up, and applicable VA reporting for assigned students.
  2. Manages day-to-day processing and student support for military Tuition Assistance and MyCAA. Reviews required documentation, coordinates applicable enrollment and account processes, maintains program records, assists students with procedural questions, and resolves or escalates exceptions as appropriate.
  3. Provides technical advising to students regarding Chapter 31, Chapter 33, TA, and MyCAA requirements and processes. Serves as a departmental resource for complex benefit-processing questions within assigned programs and coordinates with appropriate external and College partners.
  4. Maintains accurate, organized, and confidential records for assigned VA students and programs. Monitors certification activity, prepares required reports and documentation, supports chart reviews and compliance-review preparation, and identifies issues requiring escalation to the Director.
  5. Coordinates and cross-trains with the part-time SCO to support continuity across VA education benefit programs. Provides backup assistance for other certification functions during absences, peak periods, or as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree and experience in Student Services programs Bachelor’s in education, Communication or Pathways specific area; One (1) yr of experience in student services, preferably in student advising in a community college setting.
