At Abbott, you can do work that matters, grow, and learn, care for yourself and your family, be your true self, and live a full life. You’ll also have access to:

The Opportunity

Abbott Neuromodulation is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to contribute to innovative translational research programs focused on understanding the mechanisms of neuromodulation and advancing next-generation therapies.

In this role, you will design and execute preclinical and clinical studies that integrate neuroscience, molecular biology, genetics, electrophysiology, digital health, and artificial intelligence to uncover biological drivers of therapeutic response. You will collaborate across research, clinical, engineering, regulatory, and data science teams to generate scientific evidence that informs therapy development, biomarker discovery, and personalized treatment approaches.

This position is ideal for a scientifically curious and hands-on researcher who enjoys combining experimental design, data analysis, and translational science to solve complex biological and clinical questions.

What You'll Do

  • Design and execute preclinical, translational, and clinical research studies investigating the biological and physiological mechanisms of neuromodulation.

  • Develop and test hypotheses related to treatment response, neuroplasticity, neural signaling, and therapeutic outcomes.

  • Conduct multimodal studies integrating molecular, genetic, electrophysiological, imaging, behavioral, digital, and clinical datasets.

  • Contribute to the identification and validation of biomarkers associated with treatment response and mechanism of action.

  • Apply AI, machine learning, and advanced analytical methods to generate insights from complex biological and clinical data.

  • Collaborate with bioinformatics, data science, engineering, clinical, and regulatory teams to advance research programs.

  • Evaluate genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, epigenetic, and other omics datasets to investigate biological mechanisms and therapeutic outcomes.

  • Analyze and interpret research findings and communicate results to scientific and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Author scientific publications, technical reports, conference presentations, and invention disclosures.

  • Support collaborations with academic investigators, clinical researchers, and external research partners.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related scientific discipline.

  • 5+ years of postdoctoral, industry, or equivalent research experience in neuroscience, neurotechnology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or related fields.

  • Experience designing and executing preclinical and/or clinical research studies.

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following areas:

  • Neuroscience or Neurophysiology

  • Neuromodulation

  • Biomarker Discovery

  • Molecular Biology or Genetics

  • Systems Biology or Computational Biology

  • Bioinformatics

  • Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning applied to biological or clinical datasets

  • Experience analyzing and interpreting biological, physiological, and clinical datasets.

  • Strong scientific communication and collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated record of scientific publications and research accomplishments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in chronic pain, movement disorders, psychiatric disorders, or other neuromodulation-related therapeutic areas.

  • Experience with EEG, ECAPs, neuroimaging, wearable sensors, digital biomarkers, or electrophysiological signal analysis.

  • Experience working with genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, or other omics datasets.

  • Experience integrating multimodal datasets to investigate mechanisms of disease or therapeutic response.

  • Familiarity with machine learning, predictive modeling, or AI applications in healthcare and life sciences.

  • Experience working in cross-functional environments spanning research, engineering, clinical, and regulatory organizations.
