The Electrical Estimator develops accurate, cost-competitive and technically compliant estimates that support HBS sales objectives. The role interprets customer requirements; prepares detailed labor, material and equipment estimates; validates supplier and subcontractor pricing; identifies scope, technical and commercial risks; and produces clear proposal deliverables for large and complex pursuits.

  • Review customer requests for proposal, specifications, drawings, single-line diagrams, schedules, addenda and other bid documents; summarize customer requirements and prepare requests for information.

  • Complete detailed quantity take-offs and bills of quantity for electrical labor, materials and equipment, including cable, conduit, supports, panels, switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, grounding, testing and related installation activities, as applicable to the project scope.

  • Develop labor estimates using appropriate labor units, crew compositions, wage rates, productivity factors, overtime and shift assumptions, supervision requirements and project-specific installation conditions.

  • Estimate material, equipment, freight, taxes, permits, testing, temporary works, mobilization, engineering and other direct and indirect costs required by the bid.

  • Define estimate assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, clarifications and risk factors; prepare estimate summaries, cost breakdowns and proposal documentation supporting bid submission requirements.

  • Use approved estimating and digital take-off tools, cost databases, assemblies and historical information to produce accurate, traceable and consistent estimates.

  • Develop RFQ packages and scopes of work for suppliers and subcontractors; solicit, evaluate and compare quotations for technical compliance, scope completeness, commercial alignment and cost competitiveness.

  • Analyze supplier and subcontractor quotations, identify pricing and scope variances, assess estimating risks, and communicate recommended cost positions, assumptions and contingencies to stakeholders.

  • Support value engineering and alternative-solution development to optimize project costs while maintaining compliance with customer requirements and applicable standards.

  • Maintain current knowledge of electrical construction methods, labor productivity, material pricing, applicable codes and standards, and regional installation practices.

  • Travel to project sites or attend site walks when required for a pursuit.

You Must Have

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in electrical estimating, electrical contracting, construction pre-bid activity or a comparable role. For a senior-level appointment, substantial experience estimating medium-to-large or complex projects is preferred.

  • Experience interpreting electrical drawings, specifications and contract documents and to prepare detailed labor, material and equipment estimates.

  • Knowledge of electrical systems, materials, construction methods and applicable electrical and safety codes, including the NEC and relevant local requirements for the role’s location.

  • Experience developing RFQ packages and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.

  • Knowledge of pre-sales and bid processes, including scope development, risk identification, value engineering and proposal preparation.

  • Ability to deliver assigned estimates to agreed quality standards, budgets and deadlines.

  • Ability to travel to project sites or attend site walks when required for a pursuit.

We Value

  • A degree, technical diploma, recognized electrical trade qualification or certification in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline. Equivalent directly relevant experience will also be considered.

  • Experience supporting large, complex or mission-critical projects, such as commercial buildings, healthcare facilities, industrial facilities, infrastructure or data centers.

  • Knowledge of medium- and low-voltage distribution, power, controls, fire, security, communications or other low-voltage systems relevant to HBS pursuits.

  • Experience estimating at different levels of design maturity, including conceptual, budgetary, design-development and firm-bid stages.

  • Knowledge of Honeywell and competitor building automation systems and the electrical contractor ecosystem.

  • Experience maintaining historical cost information and participating in post-bid or post-project estimate reviews.

  • Ability to coordinate across functions, geographic regions and time zones while balancing speed and accuracy.

  • Lean, Six Sigma, Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or comparable estimating credentials.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with digital take-off or specialist electrical estimating software.
