Job Title: Second-Shift Maintenance Engineer
Job Description
This hands-on Maintenance Engineer role supports second-shift operations in a fast-paced cable assembly and electrical manufacturing environment. You serve as the primary technical resource for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production machinery to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability. The position offers significant autonomy, high visibility with leadership and engineering teams, and the opportunity to become the go-to technical expert for second-shift manufacturing equipment.
Responsibilities

Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical failures on manufacturing and production equipment during second shift.

Identify root causes of machine downtime and implement effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Repair production equipment and replace defective components to restore safe and reliable operation.

Diagnose and resolve equipment issues quickly to support production goals and minimize downtime.

Support equipment reliability initiatives and continuous improvement efforts to increase uptime.

Provide on-the-floor technical support for second-shift manufacturing operations from 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM.

Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and urgent maintenance requests from production personnel.

Work closely with production teams to maintain operational efficiency and meet manufacturing targets.

Perform preventive maintenance activities on manufacturing equipment according to established schedules.

Execute corrective maintenance when equipment failures occur, ensuring thorough and lasting repairs.

Assist in developing, refining, and improving maintenance practices, procedures, and documentation.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings to guide troubleshooting and repairs.

Use technical documentation and manuals to support accurate diagnostics and effective equipment repair.

Support the implementation of equipment improvements, upgrades, and automation or controls initiatives.

Identify replacement parts required for repairs and coordinate with equipment suppliers and vendors as needed.

Assist with maintaining an appropriate spare parts inventory to reduce repair times and avoid extended downtime.

Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure equipment is safely isolated before performing any work.

Maintain strict compliance with company safety procedures, manufacturing standards, and best practices.

Focus maintenance efforts on manufacturing equipment, production machinery, and industrial systems rather than facilities or building maintenance.

Clearly communicate troubleshooting methodology, repair approach, and root cause findings to engineering, leadership, and production teams.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Somerset, New Jersey.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $39.90 - $42.31/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
