Job Description
The Maintenance Engineer performs a wide range of technical and mechanical tasks to support the efficient operation of multiple facilities. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, this role focuses on executing preventative maintenance schedules, troubleshooting facility systems, and delivering high-quality service to building occupants. The Maintenance Engineer ensures that properties operate with maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness while maintaining a professional, client-facing presence in healthcare environments.
Responsibilities

Perform routine preventative maintenance on facility systems, including tasks such as HVAC filter changes, fire extinguisher inspections, and exit sign inspections.

Complete basic plumbing repairs, including addressing leaky sinks, faucets, and other minor plumbing issues.

Carry out basic electrical repairs such as replacing light switches, ballasts, and power outlets.

Perform minor carpentry and drywall repairs as needed to maintain facility appearance and functionality.

Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to perform maintenance and repair tasks.

Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and facility-related issues and implement appropriate corrective actions.

Follow directions from the Chief Engineer to support overall building operations and maintenance priorities.

Work in professional healthcare environments, ensuring minimal disruption to occupants and adherence to facility expectations.

Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, tenants, and staff to explain work being performed and any required follow-up.

Document completed work and report issues, delays, or additional needs to the appropriate personnel.

Travel locally between multiple sites to complete assigned work orders and maintenance tasks.

Adapt to changing work order demands, including occasional after-hours work when required by specific clinics or projects.
Essential Skills

Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn and perform a variety of maintenance tasks.

Basic electrical skills, including familiarity with replacing switches, ballasts, and outlets.

Basic plumbing skills, including troubleshooting and repairing minor leaks and fixture issues.

Basic carpentry and drywall repair skills for minor facility repairs.

Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

Strong communication skills to interact professionally with clients, tenants, and colleagues in a client-facing environment.

High degree of professionalism when working in professional healthcare facilities.

Ability to execute preventative maintenance schedules consistently and accurately.

Capability to travel locally from site to site as required by work assignments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in maintenance technician or facilities maintenance roles is beneficial.

Experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry work is advantageous.

Comfort working in professional healthcare environments such as clinics and offices.

Certifications are not required for this position.

Willingness to learn new maintenance procedures and follow guidance from the Chief Engineer.

Ability to troubleshoot facility systems and identify appropriate solutions.

Work Environment
This role is primarily based in professional healthcare and office environments that are not hospitals, such as clinics and administrative facilities. Work is performed on-site at multiple locations, and you will travel locally from site to site to complete assigned tasks. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the possibility of schedule adjustments depending on work order demand. Some clinics may require work to be completed after regular hours based on project needs. The position is highly client-facing, requiring a professional demeanor and respectful interaction with staff and occupants. Uniforms are provided, including work pants and branded shirts, and comfortable boots are expected; steel-toe boots are not required. You will routinely use hand tools and power tools and work in clean, professional facilities where safety, appearance, and minimal disruption to occupants are important.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
