Environmental Field Technician

Field Technician - Environmental Sampling Pittsfield, Massachusetts Berkshire Environmental Consultants, Inc. (BEC) is an environmental consulting firm founded in 1995 and headquartered in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. BEC provides air quality compliance and permitting, environmental site assessment, and environmental consulting services to industrial clients across the power generation and manufacturing sectors. Position Overview This is a field-based position supporting BEC's field managers and engineers on environmental sampling projects. The focus is hands-on field support, equipment handling, and accurate data collection. This is a long-term growth position, and BEC will train the right candidate. This position is based in Pittsfield, MA. Candidates must already reside within a reasonable commuting distance; BEC does not provide relocation assistance. Responsibilities - Support field managers and engineers on water, air, and soil sampling activities - Transport, set up, and break down field equipment (frequent lifting and carrying required) - Learn to operate field instruments and sampling techniques under supervision - Enter and manage field data in Excel and related tools - Maintain accurate field records - Work both independently and as part of a team, depending on the task Requirements - Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs - Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Availability for some early morning or evening hours as project schedules require - Valid driver's license - Must reside within commuting distance of Pittsfield, MA (no relocation assistance provided) Preferred Qualifications - 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (BEC will provide training if not already certified) - Bachelor's degree in environmental science or another science field preferred; an associate's degree in environmental science or a related field will also be considered for candidates eager to learn and grow in the field What This Role Offers - Hands-on training in field sampling techniques and instrumentation - Direct mentorship from experienced field managers and engineers - A genuine long-term growth path within a small, established firm - Local work based in Pittsfield, with regional field travel
