Full job description

About Base Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role The Deployments product launch team takes Base’s newest hardware from prototype and pilot to full-scale deployment. We get each product ready for the field, track every issue that shows up in a home, and send what we find back to the engineers who design it. As an intern, you’ll work alongside deployment engineers and installers on the launch of Base’s next major hardware program. You’ll support early pilot installs, from choosing sites to troubleshooting live systems. You’ll see up close how a new product is designed, built, tested, and installed at scale, and what you find will shape what ships next. This role fits someone who wants to be close to hardware and is comfortable on a program that changes week to week.

What You’ll Do

  • Support field crews during new product installs and service calls, troubleshooting with them by phone, text, and Slack.

  • Log field defects and spot patterns across installs and service calls.

  • Coordinate installs between contractors, members, and Base installers.

  • Help evaluate pilot sites and define install procedures.

  • Track how pilot hardware performs in the field using Grafana (dashboards) and Retool (internal tools).

  • Write and maintain install playbooks.

  • Put together readiness updates and known-issue summaries for the team.

What You’ll Bring

  • Currently a junior, senior, or graduate student studying Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • A solid foundation in electrical and mechanical concepts: you can look at a wiring diagram or assembly and start reasoning about what’s wrong.

  • Interest in how products go from prototype to production. Hardware build or new product introduction (NPI) experience from an internship, co-op, or engineering project team is a plus.

  • Strong documentation habits: notes, logs, and write-ups other people can use.

  • Clear verbal and written communication.

  • Comfort with ambiguity: pilots move fast, and priorities shift as new issues surface.

  • Curiosity, self-motivation, and the ability to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced environment.

  • Nice to have: familiarity with Grafana, Jira, or Retool.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values

  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

Do the best work of your life at Base.
