Job Title: Quality Engineer IIJob Description
The Quality Engineer II plays a key role in strengthening and maintaining robust quality systems within a fast-growing manufacturing environment that produces electrical distribution equipment for data centers. This position focuses on advanced quality engineering practices, including PPAP, root cause analysis, and ISO 9001 quality management systems, while collaborating closely with manufacturing teams to support low- to high-volume and engineer-to-order production.
Responsibilities

Lead and execute Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities for major customers, ensuring all documentation, validation, and quality requirements are thoroughly met.

Update, refine, and maintain quality procedures in alignment with ISO 9001 standards, supporting a strong and compliant Quality Management System (QMS).

Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of company certifications and quality standards, particularly in environments experiencing rapid growth or start-up conditions.

Conduct thorough Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using methodologies such as Fishbone diagrams and 5 Why to investigate quality issues and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

Perform and oversee quality inspections across the production process, including incoming inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection, to ensure products meet specifications and standards.

Support and participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activities, evaluating nonconforming materials and determining appropriate disposition and follow-up actions.

Work with Bills of Materials (BOM) and engineering documentation to verify accuracy, completeness, and alignment with customer and regulatory requirements.

Apply and interpret UL standards, including UL 891 switchboard commercial standards, as well as relevant milspec standards, to ensure compliance in product design and manufacturing.

Support quality assurance for electrical distribution equipment, including switchgear, switchboards, busbars, and related power distribution and power conversion products.

Collaborate closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve quality issues, improve processes, and support both low- to high-volume and engineer-to-order production environments.

Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to product quality and process effectiveness, and recommend improvements based on data-driven insights.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the QMS, driving higher reliability, consistency, and customer satisfaction.

Demonstrate confidence in decision-making and communication when addressing quality concerns, presenting findings, and recommending solutions to cross-functional stakeholders.
Essential Skills

At least 5 years of experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing floor environment.

Hands-on PPAP experience supporting major customers in a manufacturing setting.

Proven experience updating and maintaining quality procedures in accordance with ISO 9001 standards.

Strong background in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using tools such as Fishbone diagrams and 5 Why methodologies.

Experience working with and within formal Quality Management Systems (QMS).

Practical knowledge of UL standards, including UL 891 switchboard commercial standards.

Experience with milspec standards and their application to manufactured products.
-
Proficiency in quality inspection processes, including incoming, in-process, and final inspection.

Experience working with Bills of Materials (BOM) and understanding their role in manufacturing and quality control.

Familiarity with Material Review Board (MRB) processes and handling nonconforming materials.

Ability to work effectively in manufacturing environments that range from low to high volume and include engineer-to-order production.

Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment, including switchgear, switchboards, busbars, and related components.

Ability to interpret and apply quality-related KPIs to drive performance improvements.

Confidence in communicating quality findings, recommendations, and decisions to cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelors degree is preferred, ideally in engineering, quality, or a related technical field.

Experience supporting or helping build out certifications and quality systems in a start-up or rapidly growing company environment is a significant plus.

Experience with electrical distribution equipment and switchgears in industrial or commercial applications.

Exposure to engineering-to-order environments and custom product manufacturing.

Ability to collaborate with large industrial or automation companies and understand their quality expectations.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to investigating and resolving quality issues.

Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills with manufacturing and engineering teams.
Work Environment
This is a fully on-site role in a dynamic manufacturing environment focused on building switchgear, busbars, and other electrical distribution equipment for data centers. The work involves close cross-collaboration with manufacturing and engineering teams on the production floor, supporting both low- to high-volume and engineer-to-order operations. The facility operates with formal quality management systems and recently achieved ISO 9001 certification, reflecting a strong commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence. The environment is fast-paced and growth-oriented, offering opportunities to influence quality processes, work with advanced electrical distribution technologies, and contribute to the ongoing development of robust certifications and standards.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cudahy, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
