SUMMARY OF POSITION :

Perform repair and rebuild duties necessary to the efficient operation of all flex and spiral braiders and flex and spiral winders with the exception of any electrical work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Clean, disassemble, inspect and assemble all braider and winder assemblies and sub-assemblies.

  • Perform repair and preventative maintenance on braiders and winders.

  • Perform the fabrication and rebuild of braider carrier, shuttle, rotor, and axle components.

  • Utilize correct safety practices while performing all duties.

  • Investigating and perform remedial changes to components exhibiting recurrent failures.

  • Ability to use drill press, arbor press, bench grinder, tension scales, calipers, micrometer, and all hand tools needed for repair of carriers and shuttles.

  • Advise Engineering and Maintenance Manager on potential problems and corrective actions necessary.

  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.

  • Maintain repair logs as instructed by supervision.

  • Requisitioned needed repair pars.

  • Maintain spare parts stock organization.

  • Ability to work overtime as required, including extended shifts & weekends, to meet business needs.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.

  • Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.

  • Maintain production schedules.

  • Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.

  • Other duties may be assigned at a later time

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

Education required:

High School diploma or GED

Experience:

Production work preferred but not required

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  1. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  2. Basic knowledge and use of hand tools.

  3. Sound decision making skills.

  4. Good math, reading and writing skills.

  5. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

  6. Strong troubleshooting skills.

  7. Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual & audio attention.

  8. Be able to distinguish audible communication and equipment sounds.

  9. Ability to work well in a team environment.

Skills/Competencies:

  1. Basic computer skills

  2. Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.

  3. Vision: Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks, such as reading machine dial gauges, drawings, and precision measuring instruments.

  4. Requires constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

  • Report directly to Maintenance Manager

  • Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee may be subject to:

  • High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.

  • Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels.

  • Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection)

  • Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis

  • Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions

  • Ability to work overtime, including short-notice overtime and weekend coverage to meet business needs.

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
