Start your career in invasive cardiology at Albany Medical Center.

The Cardiovascular Technologist I (CVT I) is an entry-level developmental position designed for individuals interested in building a career in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Through a structured, competency-based orientation, the CVT I develops the clinical and technical skills necessary to support diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in a high-acuity academic medical center.

Working alongside interventional cardiologists, nurses, cardiovascular technologists, and medical imaging technologists, the CVT I gains hands-on experience in cardiac catheterization, coronary intervention, hemodynamic monitoring, STEMI care, procedural equipment, and advanced cardiovascular technologies.

Prior Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory experience is not required. We are looking for motivated candidates with a strong clinical foundation, an interest in cardiovascular care, and the ability to learn and grow within a fast-paced procedural environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete a structured orientation and competency pathway in invasive cardiovascular technology.

  • Develop proficiency in cardiovascular anatomy, coronary angiography, hemodynamics, procedural workflow, and cardiovascular equipment.

  • Perform hemodynamic monitoring and procedural documentation using McKesson and Epic.

  • Develop sterile technique and scrub skills beginning with diagnostic cardiac catheterization and progressing into interventional procedures based on demonstrated competency.

  • Prepare procedural rooms, equipment, supplies, and devices for diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures.

  • Assist the multidisciplinary team during routine, complex, and emergent cardiovascular care.

  • Develop the knowledge and technical skills required to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately during procedural emergencies.

  • Participate in the emergency on-call rotation following successful completion of orientation and required competency validation.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Cardiovascular Technology program or qualifying post-secondary health science/allied health program.

  • Prior Cath Lab experience not required.

  • Previous cardiovascular, acute-care, procedural, or related clinical experience preferred but not required.

  • BLS required upon hire.

  • ACLS required within six months of hire.

  • RCIS preferred but not required for CVT I.

  • PALS required within six months of hire. Career Development

CVT I is designed as the developmental entry point into Albany Medical Center's Cardiovascular Technologist career pathway. Advancement is based on successful completion of orientation, demonstrated procedural competency, clinical performance, and achievement of the requirements established for the next level.
