DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Serve on a team of Juvenile Case Managers for a truancy prevention and intervention program designed to provide case management and support services to students and families who are considered truant. Using individual judgment and discretion, provides identification/assessment, truancy intervention, and community-based referrals to social services for juveniles and their families. Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:• Conducts home/school visits to perform pre-court assessments and interviews with students and families, connecting students and parents/guardians to community resources.

  • Maintains client documentation, case files and tracking system.
  • Works with community-based organizations, law enforcement, and juvenile justice agencies to maximize youth and parent compliance.
  • Conducts truancy education and awareness presentations; attends mandatory trainings; participates in summer programming; other duties and assignments as needed.
  • Applicant must be available on scheduled evenings to attend Municipal Court dockets, workshops, and/or conduct home visits as well as some weekends for community service projects. General office setting.

WORKING CONDITIONS There is only a slight source of discomfort from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions when required to occasionally work outdoors.

All candidates must be able to successfully pass CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) certification, which includes fingerprinting and a full criminal background check, as a condition of employment. Continued employment in this position requires maintaining CJIS background check clearance at all times. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree with multiple course work in one of the following areas: Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or Social Work.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Two years of professional experience in juvenile court programs or related social services work are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).Preference shall be given to candidates who are bilingual in English and SPANISH and have demonstrated case management and outreach experience. Strong organizational, computer, writing and communication skills are also preferred. Experience working with kids.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. ** SELECTION / SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED The selection process will involve application review and/or interview. Department may administer skills assessment test. Bilingual applicants applying will be subject to skill testing.

SAFETY IMPACT POSITION YES This position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

PAY GRADE: 20

GRANT FUND POSITION Grants & Special Funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employees may be laid off or transferred.
