Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) at Peterson SBD1, El Paso, CO is searching for a Mission Partner Cybersecurity Engineer to support SYD 85 (NH-0801-03, GS-12/13 Equivalent). Position is eligible to be filled at either Peterson Space Force Base Colorado Springs, CO or Los Angeles Space Force Base, El Segundo CA Description: The US Space Force is seeking a dynamic engineer to serve as the primary technical evaluator during the critical intake and onboarding process for new mission partners. In this pivotal role, you will act as the central advocate, educator, and guide for the overarching Joint Antenna Marketplace (JAM) cybersecurity framework. You will ensure that external commercial and government partners understand and meet all technical security prerequisites before integrating into the enterprise network, effectively preventing schedule delays and mitigating vulnerabilities early in the onboarding phase. This high-impact position demands an exceptional blend of strategic decision support, robust analytical capabilities, sharp time management, and superior oral and written communication skills. Daily, you will articulate and advocate for enterprise cybersecurity processes to diverse stakeholders, ensuring security architectures align with both unclassified and classified baseline requirements. Your hands-on responsibilities will include assessing incoming antenna providers for compliance, vulnerabilities, and integration risks prior to onboarding, as well as collaborating directly with Authorizing Officials (AOs) to streamline the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and accreditation pathways. By identifying and mitigating cyber risks during the initial technical alignment phase, you will secure the high ground of space domain networks and prevent bottlenecks in the enterprise intake funnel. Ideal Candidate: An ideal candidate for this US Space Force position will possess a strong educational foundation, holding a bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related STEM discipline (with a master's degree highly preferred), or equivalent professional experience. They must bring hands-on experience conducting cybersecurity risk assessments and technical due diligence on both external commercial and government systems. This role requires strong analytical skills to effectively balance stringent security controls with mission-critical operational timelines. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate significant experience utilizing Microsoft Office tools, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word, to support daily mission requirements and documentation. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development, execution, and advisory services. 2. Knowledge of development engineering methodologies sufficient to apply experimental theories and/or new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment. 3. Knowledge of systems engineering practices and procedures as they pertain to sustainment, modification, logistics, and production management principles, concepts, policies, and systems. 4. Knowledge of the principles of planning and program management; of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and of other engineering disciplines used in support of sustainment, modification, and maintenance programs. 5. Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches; to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes; and to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, form conclusions, and devise and recommend solutions to problems. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, with technical accuracy and to use computers and a variety of software programs and databases, gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning program progress, and effectively communicate recommendations orally and in writing to higher organizational management and contractors. 7. Knowledge of agency program goals and objectives and the sequence and timing of key program events and milestones; and of planning, programming, presenting, and executing budgets as well as forecasting long-term funding requirements.
