Robert Half is seeking an efficient Grant Accountant to support the financial management of grant-funded programs based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This contract to permanent opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented Grant Accountant who can build compliant budgets, interpret funding guidelines, and provide financial oversight throughout the grant lifecycle. The Grant Accountant in this role will partner closely with program leadership and grants staff to strengthen reporting accuracy, maintain funding compliance, and help ensure resources are used effectively. As a Grant Accountant your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Create proposal and program budgets in partnership with internal teams, aligning financial plans with operational needs and sponsor regulations.

  • Gather, organize, and distribute financial records and supporting administrative materials needed for submissions, renewals, and funder inquiries.

  • Review grant and contract terms to determine allowable costs, budget restrictions, and financial documentation requirements.

  • Implement tracking methods and controls that support compliance throughout the full award period, including maintaining required information in funder portals.

  • Produce financial analyses and closeout-focused reporting ahead of grant end dates to identify underspending or overages and recommend corrective action.

  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable to assign expenses to the correct funding sources and advise on cost allocation questions as they arise.

  • Assist with audit preparation by compiling requested documentation, validating transactions, and maintaining records of funder approvals.

  • Monitor grant spending patterns and collaborate with program staff to support timely and accurate use of awarded funds.

Requirements

The ideal Grant Accountant candidate will have:

  • Experience in grant accounting, fund administration, or financial oversight for restricted funding.

  • Working knowledge of government grants and the financial compliance standards tied to sponsored programs.

  • Ability to develop and manage detailed budgets while interpreting complex award conditions.

  • Experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and spending analyses for grant-funded activity.

  • Familiarity with expense coding, allocation practices, and coordination with accounts payable processes.

  • Proficiency with Abila MIP and strong comfort working with financial systems and reporting tools.

  • Understanding of NAV (Net Asset Value) concepts and broader fund management principles is preferred.
