Full job description

The Johns Hopkins Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is once again expanding and we have a new position for clinical audiologist at our new ambulatory satellite facility in Arlington, VA. Qualified individuals should have either a Doctorate or Master's level degree. Candidates must also meet licensing requirements for the State of Maryland and Virginia. Our team of audiologists works closely with the neurotologists, otologists, pediatric otolaryngologists and general ENT physicians in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery to provide comprehensive hearing healthcare.

The Johns Hopkins Audiology is based at the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Our audiologists currently provide hearing healthcare at six locations across Maryland and Washington, DC (Baltimore, Lutherville-Timonium, White Marsh, Bethesda and DC) and this will be our first in Virginia.

Responsibilities will consist of but not limited to:

  • comprehensive diagnostic testing for both pediatric and adult populations and adult hearing aid care.

  • Conduct comprehensive audiologic evaluations, including diagnostic assessments for patients of all ages.

  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative cochlear implant evaluations, programming, and rehabilitation services.

  • Counsel patients and families regarding candidacy, expectations, and outcomes for cochlear implants and other implantable hearing technologies.

  • Dispense, fit, and adjust hearing aids and related assistive listening devices, including verification and validation measures.

  • Interpret test results and communicate findings to patients, families, and referring providers in a clear, compassionate manner.

  • Collaborate with otolaryngologists, speech-language pathologists, and other clinical team members to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.

  • Document patient care in the electronic medical record in accordance with Johns Hopkins University and departmental standards.

  • Participate in quality improvement, clinical research, and/or educational initiatives, as appropriate to interest and departmental needs.

As this is a new location, the roles and responsibilities are anticipated to expand further as the clinic evolves.

This position is an excellent opportunity for either an experienced audiologist or new graduate to further enhance clinical skills and gain exposure to new challenges. Services provided across the department include diagnostic testing for pediatrics and adults, hearing aids and/or other assistive technology, sedated ABR testing in the OR, osseo-integrated implants, cochlear implants and vestibular testing. The salary and benefit package will be based on experience. There are also opportunities for teaching of audiology students, residents and the public.

The anticipated total compensation range is $90k - $115k+, depending on academic rank, experience, clinical effort, and productivity.

  • Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) or equivalent degree from an accredited program.

  • Eligible for Maryland and Washington, D.C. audiology licensure prior to start date.

  • Minimum of one year of post-graduate clinical experience preferred; new graduates with strong cochlear implant interest are encouraged to apply.

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in cochlear implant services and other implantable hearing technologies.

  • Strong skills in diagnostic audiology, amplification fitting, and patient counseling.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.

Salary: $90,000 - $115,000
