Job Summary

Works with university departments as an IT consultant for networking and telephony MAC (moves/adds/changes) requests. Assesses needs for cabling, parts, equipment, and other technology components. Works with outside vendors to obtain cost estimates for projects. After MAC requests are approved and funded, manages technical work with departments and vendors through MAC completion.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as University IT consultant to determine technical needs and requirements for Networking/Telephony MAC (moves/adds/changes) project requests.

  • Assesses needs for cabling, parts, equipment, and other technology components and works closely with appropriate staff members to estimate total cost of these items and prepare parts assessments.

  • Serves as iTech liaison and representative on University-level MAC projects on all campuses. Works closely with USM Physical Plant and MS Bureau of Buildings to ensure technology specifications are up-to-date and appropriate for the MAC request.

  • Works closely with the other iTech teams to coordinate projects and understand technology requirements and regulations. Manages and coordinates tasks with team members and vendors throughout the MAC lifecycle.

  • Works closely with contractors/vendors to obtain quotes. Schedules installations with customers and contractors.

  • Locates, marks, terminates, splices, and determines cable paths for outside copper and fiber plants.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
