MJ has an exciting opportunity for aWater Resources Engineerto join our growing and widely respected Water Resources Group. Our Water Resources Group is a leader on transportation, aviation, municipal, and environmental projects throughout the Northeast. Our engineers support a wide variety of services including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, bridge and culvert hydraulics, stormwater management, flood resiliency planning, FEMA floodplain studies, stream restoration, and watershed improvements.

This position is available in any of MJ'sNew YorkorNew Englandoffice locations. Hybrid work arrangements will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations for transportation, aviation, municipal, land development, and ecological restoration projects.

  • Complete 1-D and 2-D Hydraulic Modeling at challenging riverine and tidal locations with technical assistance from team leaders.

  • Develop hydrologic and hydraulic models, evaluate results, and communicate findings to project teams and clients.

  • Use FHWA Hydraulic Engineering Circulars (HEC) such as HEC-18, HEC-20 and HEC-23 to calculate potential scour, assess stream behavior and stability, and develop recommendations for scour countermeasures.

  • Perform field investigations for hydrologic and hydraulic assessments, construction observation, and monitoring activities, as needed.

  • Support the planning, design, permitting, and construction-phase delivery of a diverse range of water resources projects.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across, including transportation, aviation, environmental, structural, and municipal project teams.

  • Participate in client meetings, agency coordination efforts, and technical discussions.

  • Prepare engineering reports, technical memoranda, permit applications, and construction documents.

  • Manage technical tasks, budgets, and schedules under the guidance of project managers.

  • Mentor junior staff as experience grows.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the firm's water resources practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • 3 to 7 years of experience in water resources is preferred, but exceptional candidates with more years of experience are encouraged to apply.

  • EIT/FE Certification is required.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within two years is preferred.

  • Strong hydraulic modeling, stream restoration and fluvial geomorphology experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements is preferred, including FEMA and floodplain management requirements.

  • Familiarity with FEMA floodplain mapping and model development.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Experience using HEC-RAS (1D and 2D), SRH-2D, HEC-HMS, HY-8, HydroCAD, or similar hydraulic and hydrologic modeling tools.

  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS and/or GIS-based analysis.

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads software is preferred.
