Full job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Registered Nurse will conduct in-service classes for Home Health Aides (HHAs), following DOH & OMIG guidelines for a Licensed Home Care Service Agency (LHCSA). Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assess HHAs in the classroom at the start of the class making sure they are in uniform, in proper shoes, have nails of proper length, and wearing masks

  • Initiate a good environment to promote teaching, taking time to explain topics

  • Supervise HHAs use of Durable Medical Equipment while demonstrating proper body mechanics

  • Able to review the material and present it in a knowledgeable, concise manner

  • Able to grade all exams, and give tutorials to students that are having difficulty grasping the topics

  • Educate HHAs about standard precautions, OSHA, health maintenance, and disease prevention.

  • Other related duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated experience working in home health care preferred

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required

  • Excellent assessment skill

  • Excellent organizational & time-management skills

  • Basic computer skills; knowledge of database entry and email i.e. Outlook

  • Skilled in interpersonal relationships

  • Excellent documentation skills, ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to carry out instructions and teach home health aides

  • Ability to teach various topics and produce lesson plans

  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certified

  • Commitment to RiseBoro’s mission, vision, and values

  • Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities

  • Demonstrated commitment/passion for serving the elderly and/or supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and/or bias (i.e., people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice-involved persons, etc.)

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • NYS licensed and currently registered as a Registered Professional Nurse required

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in home health care preferred
