About the Role

As a Tax Advisor at H&R Block, you’ll help clients navigate their tax needs with confidence and clarity. Supported by technology and a dedicated Client Care Specialist, you’ll review each client’s situation, ensure return accuracy, and provide practical guidance that builds trust and creates value. This is a seasonal, in-person role offering competitive hourly pay and incentives.

  • Guide clients through a consultative experience — Review each client’s tax situation, identify opportunities, and provide personalized recommendations that build trust and confidence

  • Translate complexity into clarity — Present tax concepts in straightforward, client-friendly language so clients fully understand their return, their options, and the steps they can take to improve their financial picture

  • Deliver forward-looking advice — Go beyond this year's return by helping clients define financial goals and providing proactive tax planning guidance, including identifying relevant H&R Block products and services

  • Own the accuracy of every return — While technology powers much of the preparation, you review, validate, and ensure every filing meets IRS regulations and H&R Block standards — including support for tax notices and audit inquiries

  • Stay sharp on tax law and technology — Keep current with evolving tax regulations, leverage H&R Block's tools and training, and pursue ongoing development to strengthen your expertise season over season

  • Build lasting client relationships — Earn client loyalty through empathy, integrity, and consistent follow-through — creating an experience that brings them back year after year

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping, including individual and small business returns

  • Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment¹

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain tax concepts in client-friendly language

  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment to deliver a seamless client experience

  • Must complete continuing education and meet all IRS and applicable state requirements

  • High school diploma / GED / equivalent required

  • CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), or other IRS Circular 230 credential

  • 5+ years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, or financial services, including complex returns, tax planning, audit support, and tax notice resolution

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field

  • Experience in a consultative or advisory client relationship role (financial advising, insurance, or professional services)

  • Familiarity with AI-powered tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT)

  • Familiarity with tax preparation software such as GoSystem or UltraTax
